Alex Smith diagnosed with compound fracture
Doctors also discovered spiral fracture in right leg
By: Doug Orth | Nov 19 2018, 7:00 pm

Alex Smith suffered a compound fracture - meaning the bone broke through his skin, per source. Trauma surgeons discovered Smith suffered a spiral fracture in his leg - defined as a long bone broken by a rotational force. Smith, 34, faces a lengthy rehab process to try to return. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)

FFToday's Take: He's done for the season, and the injury is serious enough that his career could be in question. At best, he's facing a long rehab process. Colt McCoy will start the rest of the way for the current NFC East leaders and be backed up by newly signed Mark Sanchez. It's hard to believe any Washington pass-catcher will benefit from this shakeup, although Jordan Reed had his best in the game of the season and slot receiver Trey Quinn flasehed in his NFL debut in Week 11.
