Jones-Drew contract issue may linger-- Sat Jun 23 9:00 am -- Neither side is budging
Maurice Jones-Drew has so far declined to say anything publicly about his contract situation, but on Wednesday he gave a little when talking with NFL Network...
"What I can say is that I hope that we can get something done, but to talk about it in the media is not going to help. Hopefully we can have something where we can be able to get out there and play in the future." He has two years left on his deal, which pays him $4.45 million this year and $4.95 million in 2013. He received a $9 million signing bonus back in 2009.
According to people with knowledge of his thinking, Jones-Drew could stay away into the regular season. (Florida Times_Union)
FF Today's Take:MJF has missed all of the teams off-season workouts in hopes of a new contract. GM Gene Smith has said he doesn't plan to renegotiate Jones-Drew's deal. In the meantime Rashad Jennings will continue to run with the first team until MJD returns.
