Forte "extremely close" to huge deal -- Sun Jul 15 7:55 pm --
Bears RB hoping to avoid playing under franchise tag | Matt Forte is making steady progress in his quest for a new contract. The Chicago Bears running back is "extremely close" to a long-term deal with the team, a source with knowledge of the situation told NFL Network's Michael Lombardi on Saturday.
Forte said Friday he planned to spend this weekend on phone with Chicago's front office, amid reports the sides had made "considerable progress."

FF Today's Take: Forte has yet to sign his one-year, $7.749 million franchise tender and the deadline to sign franchise players to long-term deals is Monday. When Forte does make it to camp, he will return to a Bears offense that underwent a facelift in the offseason. Forte is a solid low-end RB1 in PPR league despite his lack of touchdowns, something that figure to change now afer Chicago signed Michael Bush this spring.
