Chad Johnson released by Dolphins -- Sun Aug 12 9:20 pm --
Let go one day after arrest | One day after being arrested on domestic battery charges, veteran WR Chad Johnson has been released by the Miami Dolphins, according to a league source. Johnson was released on $2,500 bond Sunday after his wife accused him of head-butting her during an argument in front of their home. Johnson was charged with simple domestic battery. He has been battling for a spot on the team after a disappointing season with the New England Patriots in 2011. Only five days earlier, first-year Dolphins HC Joe Philbin said Johnson's roster spot could be in jeopardy if he didn't temper his freewheeling behavior. (ESPN)
FF Today's Take: Johnson's one-year deal included no guaranteed money, so the Dolphins lose nothing here while Johnson may have blown his only chance at extending his NFL career. Now 34, Johnson may need a rash of injuries to strike the receiver position across the league to even get a look. Meanwhile, Miami moves forward with Davone Bess, Legedu Naanee, Roberto Wallace and injured Brian Hartline as its top four receivers.
