Bengals won't match offer for Hawkins Browns get new slot receiver By: Mike Krueger | Mar 18 2014, 3:30 pm
Former Bengals wide receiver Andrew Hawkins waited six long years to become a Brown, but better later than never.
The Bengals announced Tuesday that they decided not to match the Browns offer to the restricted free agent. The Browns pursued him in free agency this year to fill the slot role vacated by recently-released Davone Bess. (Cleveland.com)
FFToday's Take:The Browns front-loaded their offer, including a $3.8 million signing bonus and $10.8 million over the first two years causing the Bengals not to match. Hawkins is a nice addition for the Browns who need someone to take pressure off of Josh Gordon and TE Jordan Cameron. Depending on how the QB situation shakes out, Hawkins can have WR4 value in the Browns offense.
