Steelers expecting big things from Wheaton
Second-year WR coming off injury-plagued rookie season
By: Doug Orth | Aug 21 2014, 4:55 pm

After a productive offseason, Markus Wheaton and Ben Roethlisberger are on the same page. The first tangible evidence came Saturday night against Buffalo when he ran an excellent post-corner route and Roethlisberger dropped a perfect pass into Wheaton’s hands. “He’s been impressive,” said veteran Lance Moore, who was signed in the offseason as a slot receiver. The Steelers decided not to re-sign Emmanuel Sanders because they believed Wheaton could develop into a dependable No. 2 receiver opposite Antonio Brown. Roethlisberger has been impressed with his development since the end of last season. (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)

FFToday's Take: Before Brandin Cooks became an unstoppable force at Oregon State last year, it was Wheaton that actually served as the Beavers' top receiving option in 2012. Wheaton is remarkably similar to the Saints' rookie and actually has a clearer path to 60-70 catches this season than his former college teammate. Assuming he can avoid the same bad luck that led to two broken fingers as a rookie, Wheaton is an incredible value at his current late-11th, early-12th round ADP.
