2016 Outlook
Depth Chart
After a solid rookie season in 2009 when he caught 37 passes for 359 yards and a touchdown, Edelman seemed a decent bet to eventually assume Wes Welkerís role in the teamís offense. However, after two seasons in which he totaled 11 receptions for 120 yards, the odds of that happening now seem remote. He would have some fantasy value, especially in PPR leagues, if Welker were to go down with an injury. Entering the season, Edelmanís only real fantasy value is if you own Welker in a deep league and want to handcuff him. Dynasty owners in deep leagues could also grab him in the hopes that Welker isnít in New England in 2013.

Cooks, Patriots deal gets done     -- Fri Mar 10 8:50 pm --

Saints get Patriots 1st round pick in 2017
Continuing their aggressive offseason blitz, the New England Patriots have agreed to trade their 2017 first-round draft choice to the New Orleans Saints in exchange for receiver Brandin Cooks, sources tell ESPN's Dianna Russini. The first-round pick is No. 32 overall, the last selection of the round. The Patriots also will trade a third-round pick (No. 103) to New Orleans and receive the Saints' fourth-round pick (No. 118), sources tell Russini. (ESPN)

FF Today's Take: This deal was rumored over the last couple days and now it's complete. The juicy part is CB Malcolm Butler remains in New England. The signing of Ted Ginn Jr. made a Cooks trade more likely and now the Patriots have acquired one of most explosive young receivers in the league. Michael Thomas and Willie Snead see their fantasy value inflated in New Orleans while Julian Edelman's value will take a hit in New England.
Michael Floyd expected to be inactive     -- Sun Feb 5 8:00 am --

A healthy scratch, other areas of need
Barring an unexpected change, I'm told Patriots wide receiver Michael Floyd will be inactive for Super Bowl LI as the team doesn't have the luxury to carry five players at the position on the 46-man game-day roster. It needs the spots for other areas, such as special teams and goal-line situations. (ESPN)

FF Today's Take: The Patriots will roll with Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan, Danny Amendola and Malcolm Mitchell at the wide receiver position.
Injury Malcolm Mithchell doubtful, knee injury     -- Sat Dec 31 7:00 am --

Not expected to play against Miami
Rookie wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell is doubtful after both players missed practice Friday. (NESN)

FF Today's Take: Mitchell missed practice Friday with a knee injury and while likely be inactive on Sunday. With his absence, expect Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan and Michael Floyd to be the top three wideouts for Tom Brady. Hogan is worthy of Flex consideration.
