2016 Outlook
Depth Chart
After a solid rookie season in 2009 when he caught 37 passes for 359 yards and a touchdown, Edelman seemed a decent bet to eventually assume Wes Welker’s role in the team’s offense. However, after two seasons in which he totaled 11 receptions for 120 yards, the odds of that happening now seem remote. He would have some fantasy value, especially in PPR leagues, if Welker were to go down with an injury. Entering the season, Edelman’s only real fantasy value is if you own Welker in a deep league and want to handcuff him. Dynasty owners in deep leagues could also grab him in the hopes that Welker isn’t in New England in 2013.

Injury Gronk questionable, limited in practice Friday     -- Fri Nov 25 4:30 pm --

Tight end's status unclear
Tight end Rob Gronkowski was also a limited participant on Friday to wrap up a week of practices after missing last Sunday’s game with a chest injury. There was a report Thursday that Gronkowski will miss this week’s game as well, but the Patriots have listed him as questionable along with Brady. (ProFootballTalk)

FF Today's Take: Basically all of the Patriots fantasy relevant players in the passing game are questionable. Tom Brady, Gronk, Julian Edelman, Martellus Bennett and Chris Hogan. It would be a complete shock if Brady, Edelman and Bennett didn't play. Gronk and Hogan are still up in the air. Perhaps we'll get more clarification before the late-afternoon kickoff on Sunday.
Injury Julian Edelman lands on injury report     -- Thu Oct 6 7:45 pm --

Foot issue
The Patriots made an addition to their injury report after Thursday’s practice. Wide receiver Julian Edelman wasn’t on Wednesday’s report, but popped up as a limited participant in practice with his foot given as the reason. There aren’t any details about the reason for the change in status. (Pro Football Talk)

FF Today's Take: No cause for alarm yet, but it is a bit troubling considering Edelman has had two foot surgeries in the last year and wasn't on Wednesday's injury report. With Tom Brady back from suspension, Edelman is a high-end WR2 in PPR formats. If he has to sit out this game, however, Chris Hogan and Danny Amendola stand to benefit the most, especially since Rob Gronkowski isn't 100 percent yet.
Injury Rob Gronkowski out Week 1     -- Fri Sep 9 8:00 pm --

Didn't make the trip to Arizona
The Patriots announced Friday that tight end Rob Gronkowski will not play Sunday night, along with offensive linemen Jonathan Cooper and Nate Solder. Gronk was limited in practice all week after injuring his hamstring a fortnight ago. (NFL.com)

FF Today's Take: Gronk's pre-season hamstring injury is going to cost him at least Week 1. His absence means TE Martellus Bennett should see a slight increase in usage along with WR Julian Edelman. Jimmy Garoppolo will have his hands full with the Arizona defense on the road and without his best receiving threat.
Injury Gronk's Week 1 status in some doubt     -- Thu Sep 8 8:30 pm --

Decision reportedly to come down to coaches and medical staff
Rob Gronkowski's injured hamstring is serious enough that he wouldn't guarantee that he will play in Sunday night's season-opening game against the Arizona Cardinals. "Yeah, it boils to a coaching decision, the medical team, and myself. We'll all get together and collaborate and see where I'm at," Gronkowski said Thursday. Gronkowski has been a limited participant in practice this week and when asked if he was 100 percent, he answered, "No, I'm not. Since that one time during practices versus the Bears [Aug. 15], I've just been week-to-week with a little hammy thing. So it's just been week-to-week, day-by-day, but I'm feeling good." (ESPN)

FF Today's Take: Considering this is the Patriots, it wouldn't be a surprise if Gronk lights up the Cardinals on Sunday night. To that end, two sources have already suggested he'll play "barring an unexpected setback". With that said, owners need to prepare themselves for the possibility he won't suit up. Martellus Bennett would go from low-end TE1 to a midrange one in such a case, while James White and Julian Edelman could be in line for more work in the passing game.
