|After a solid rookie season in 2009 when he caught 37 passes for 359 yards and a touchdown, Edelman seemed a decent bet to eventually assume Wes Welkerís role in the teamís offense. However, after two seasons in which he totaled 11 receptions for 120 yards, the odds of that happening now seem remote. He would have some fantasy value, especially in PPR leagues, if Welker were to go down with an injury. Entering the season, Edelmanís only real fantasy value is if you own Welker in a deep league and want to handcuff him. Dynasty owners in deep leagues could also grab him in the hopes that Welker isnít in New England in 2013.
| Julian Edelman leaves practice (lower leg) -- Tue Aug 9 11:04 am --|
Pats WR appeared frustrated; more reports to follow
|Pats Insider Tom E. Curran (@tomecurran) on Twitter: "Julian Edelman has gone off to the side with disgust, threw helmet. Trainer Jim Whalen looking at lower left leg as Edelman sits on cart." (Twitter)|
FF Today's Take: The injury was sustained during a joint practice with the Saints on Tuesday. This is not good news for the Patriots, who are already without QB Tom Brady for the first four games of the season. Stay tuned.
| Julian Edelman returns to practice -- Sun Aug 7 3:00 pm --|
Off the PUP list
|The Patriots offense received a big boost this afternoon with the return of wide receiver Julian Edelman to practice.
Edelman was in pads and wasn't even wearing a non-contact jersey.
Edelman, who has been recovering from foot surgeries, began training camp on the active/PUP list. He has been working out at camp, signalling that he was close to a return.
Today, the Patriots finally removed him from the PUP and gave him the green light. (Boston Herald)|
FF Today's Take: Foot injuries are difficult for athletes so while it's nice to Edelman back at camp and presumably he will be ready for Week 1, his injury history should be noted by fantasy owners. He's missed 9 games over the last two seasons.
