|When Adrian Peterson suffered a torn ACL in Week 16 last season, it appeared that Gerhart, the Vikingís second round selection in the 2010 draft, would finally get an opportunity to strut his stuff, at least early in the 2012 season. Unfortunately for Gerhart, he suffered an MCL tear and off-season reports indicated that Peterson is ahead of schedule in his recovery and may be ready to play on opening day. Those factors combined relegate Gerhart to little more than Petersonís handcuff – barring a setback in Petersonís recovery. At best, Gerhart may be a useful flex option for the early part of the season until Peterson is fully recovered.
|Jags want Gerhart to be bell-cow RB -- Mon Mar 24 9:39 am --|
Coach has high hopes for former Vikings RB
|I asked Gus Bradley if Toby Gerhart would be his bell-cow back. 'That's what we hope to see ... we like what we saw on tape.' (Marc Sessler via Twitter)|
FF Today's Take: The Jags signed Gerhart to a three-year deal worth $10.5 million with $4.5 million guaranteed earlier this month. Opportunity is going drive Gerhart's fantasy value this summer and he should be taken as an RB3 once mock draft season heats up. Gerhart has spent the last four seasons behind Adrian Peterson in Minnesota.
|Gerhart, Jags agree on three-year deal -- Tue Mar 11 9:30 pm --|
$4.5 million guaranteed
|The Jacksonville Jaguars have found a new running back.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday night that Toby Gerhart has signed a three-year deal worth $10.5 million with $4.5 million guaranteed, according to a source informed of the deal.
FF Today's Take: The former backup to Adrian Peterson lands in Jacksonville where he is now penciled in as a starter with only Jordan Todman on the roster. Longtime Jaguar Maurice Jones-Drew is not expected to be back with the team. Given the stagnant nature of the Jags offense, Gerhart is more of an RB3 even as a feature back.
