2015 Outlook
Depth Chart
Desperate for help at the quarterback position and unable to acquire a solid veteran free agent to bolster the position, the Dolphins used the 8th pick in the 2012 draft to acquire Tannehill. The Texas A&M product is a converted wide receiver and scouting reports indicate he is a raw prospect who will require extensive seasoning before becoming a solid NFL starting quarterback. Unfortunately for Miami fans, Tannehill may not be afforded the luxury of time given the state of the Dolphins quarterback depth chart. Veteran retreads Matt Moore and David Garrard are Miami’s other options and neither is considered a viable long-term option at the position. That means Tannehill will likely join the starting lineup sooner than he should and the Dolphins passing attack will take its lumps with him under center. Considering the team’s lack of talent at the wide receiver position where the current starters (Brian Hartline and Davone Bess) wouldn’t start for nearly any other team in the league, Tannehill will have little help once he joins the starting lineup. Avoid owning Tannehill in 2012 but consider him a mid-tier prospect in dynasty leagues.

Dolphins want Tannehill to run the ball more     -- Fri Nov 20 4:20 pm --

QB has just 44 rushing yards this year after posting 311 last year
So here’s the list of quarterbacks you’d expect to have more rushing yards than Ryan Tannehill this year: Cam Newton. Russell Wilson. Tyrod Taylor. And Colin Kaepernick. Now here’s a list of quarterbacks you wouldn’t: Jay Cutler. Andy Dalton. Matt Cassel. And most amazingly, Eli Manning. Not one of the second group ran 40-yard dashes faster than 4.75 during the draft process. Tannehill, meanwhile, was a collegiate wide receiver for a big-time program and projected as a dangerously mobile quarterback. And yet, Cutler, Dalton, Cassel and Manning all have had more success on the ground than Tannehill. Tannehill has 44 yards on 17 carries this season. He’s on pace to set career lows in rushing attempts, rushing yards and rushing average. It hasn’t gone unnoticed. Tannehill this week acknowledged that he “would like to” run the ball more. And the most important opinion — Dan Campbell’s — is the same. “That’s certainly still in our package,” the Dolphins’ interim head coach said. “Would we like to run him more? Yeah.” Perhaps this week — with the Cowboys and their average run defense coming to town — is when it changes. (Miami Herald)

FF Today's Take: Tannehill's been a middle of the pack fantasy quarterback this season. Increased rushing totals would push his fantasy value up, but for now he's nothing more than a high-end QB2.
