2016 Outlook
Depth Chart
Desperate for help at the quarterback position and unable to acquire a solid veteran free agent to bolster the position, the Dolphins used the 8th pick in the 2012 draft to acquire Tannehill. The Texas A&M product is a converted wide receiver and scouting reports indicate he is a raw prospect who will require extensive seasoning before becoming a solid NFL starting quarterback. Unfortunately for Miami fans, Tannehill may not be afforded the luxury of time given the state of the Dolphins quarterback depth chart. Veteran retreads Matt Moore and David Garrard are Miami’s other options and neither is considered a viable long-term option at the position. That means Tannehill will likely join the starting lineup sooner than he should and the Dolphins passing attack will take its lumps with him under center. Considering the team’s lack of talent at the wide receiver position where the current starters (Brian Hartline and Davone Bess) wouldn’t start for nearly any other team in the league, Tannehill will have little help once he joins the starting lineup. Avoid owning Tannehill in 2012 but consider him a mid-tier prospect in dynasty leagues.

Gase pushing Tannehill to his "breaking point"     -- Thu Jun 23 5:00 pm --

HC pleased with QB's education in his system
During practice, (new HC Adam) Gase likes to put Ryan Tannehill and the other quarterbacks in a bunch of difficult situations: 4th and 10, facing unexpected blitzes and anything they could possibly encounter in a game. “He puts a lot of pressure on you ... makes practice hard,” rookie QB Brandon Doughty said. “I thought during practice he would say, ‘The blitz is coming to the right, let’s check this.’ He doesn’t give you much, which is good, because he’s not going to be out there on game day.” As Gase noted last week, “I put a lot on [Tannehill’s] plate. It’s almost to the point where it’s probably too much this fast. I want to see where the breaking point is. He’s been doing a good job of responding.” (Miami Herald)

FF Today's Take: The bad: Tannehill is learning his third offensive system going into his fifth pro season. The good: Gase is a huge upgrade from Mike Sherman or Bill Lazor, he is as good with quarterbacks as any coach in the league, and he trusts his quarterbacks to audible, which is something Tannehill hasn't been allowed to do. With the weapons he has in place now and solid coaching, Tannehill could very easily be a top-10 quarterback this season.
