2012 Outlook
Depth Chart
With the first pick in the 2nd round of the draft, the Rams swung for the fences with the selection of Quick, a physical specimen from tiny Appalachian State. The 6’4”, 220-pound Quick possesses solid, if not outstanding speed, a massive wingspan and was highly productive during his last season in college with 71 receptions for nearly 1,100 yards and 11 touchdowns. Whether or not his combine measurables and college production translates into success in St. Louis is the issue. Given the low level of competition he faced, Quick figures to get out of the gates slowly in 2012 even if he begins the season in the starting lineup… a reasonable probability given the state of the team’s depth chart at wide receiver. Quick isn’t worth drafting in re-draft leagues but is a decent prospect in dynasty leagues, especially those that use PPR scoring.

Comment: The Rams could very well start two rookie wide receivers this year with Quick leading the team on the outside. "We expect him to play and be a big part of our offense," Fisher said.

Austin Pettis impressing in offseason workouts
Although Brian Quick essentially was redshirted after struggling to master the playbook, he was expected to ascend to the starting lineup this offseason. That has yet to happen because Quick has an Austin Pettis problem. "Quite honestly, (Pettis) is probably having the best camp of all the skill players," Schottenheimer said via Stlouisrams.com. "He's a tireless worker, very competitive, can play all the spots which helps and he's having a tremendous spring." (NFL.com)

FF Today's Take: For now, Pettis and Chris Givens are working as the outside starters with Tavon Austin in the slot. Our money is on Quick to replace Pettis as a starter by the end of training camp. In any case, Austin is will likely lead this receiving group in fantasy points.
Quick, Givens expected starters     -- Tue Apr 30 9:00 am --

Tavon Austin to be used all over the field
At the moment, Brian Quick and Chris Givens project as the starting outside receivers, with Austin in the slot. The Rams could pair those three up in two tight end sets with Cook and Kendricks in what would be an empty backfield. Three- and four-receiver sets figure to see more use at the Edward Jones Dome than they have since the days of Mike Martz. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)

FF Today's Take: The Rams have rebuilt their offense and while Quick and Givens will be noted as starting receivers, Tavon Austin out of the slot may have have the most fantasy value of the three, especially in PPR leagues. Expect him to be used in a Percy Harvin-type role, from the slot receiver position, out of the backfield as a running back and on special teams as a returner.
Rams move up, grab WR Austin     -- Thu Apr 25 7:10 pm --

Tavon Austin, first receiver taken in 2013 draft
The St. Louis Rams got help for quarterback Sam Bradford, trading up eight spots with Buffalo and taking West Virginia wide receiver Tavon Austin with the eighth overall selection in the NFL draft. (ESPN)

FF Today's Take: Austin essentially fills the void left behind by Danny Amendola. It also suggests the team has plenty of confidence in Brian Quick. Austin should contend for the team lead in receptions, receiving yards and TDs in his rookie season while also giving the Rams a big boost in the return game. Fantasy-wise, Austin's floor should be a WR4 in all leagues. The Rams now sport a receiving lineup of Quick, Chris Givens, Austin and TE Jared Cook.
