Marvin Jones replacing Megatron in Detroit-- Wed Mar 9 10:55 am --
Chose Lions over Patriots and Bengals
The Lions are going to sign Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Marvin Jones, sources told ESPN's Dianna Russini. The deal can't be made official until 4 p.m. ET Wednesday, when the new league year begins. The agreement between Jones and the Lions comes less than 24 hours after Calvin Johnson announced he was retiring from the NFL (ESPN)
FF Today's Take:Good timing for Jones who is a top prospect in a week free agent class of wide receivers. He will move right into the starting lineup opposite Golden Tate and should have a WR3 floor in the Lions offense that had the highest pass-run ratio (64%-36%) last season.
Marvin Jones: "No hometown discount"-- Tue Feb 9 8:30 am --
Bengals' free agent excited to test the waters
Marvin Jones was back in his home state at the site of Super Bowl 50 to speak publicly for the first time about his impending free agency. And, he let the Bengals and the league know he’s open for business.
“I'd like to be back, but at the same time I am a free agent - no hometown discount, definitely not - but I'm a free agent,” Jones told NFL Media. “It wouldn't be good for me not to test the waters a little bit. So it's just an exciting process."
FF Today's Take:The free agent market for wide receivers will be a thin group with Alshon Jeffery, Travis Benjamin and Jones three of the biggest names available. Jones increased his reception (65) and yardage total (816) but couldn't repeat his 10-TD performance from 2014 making him more of a WR3 this past season. His talent makes him an ideal No.2 wideout and could be miscast as a primary target.
