T-Rich making presence felt in Colts' camp-- Thu Aug 14 5:15 pm --
Hoping from bounceback from poor 2013 season
This one probably deserves an asterisk, because at the start of camp, it seemed as though things were touch and go with Trent Richardson. He didn't practice for the first week of camp, sidelined as a precaution because of a hamstring injury suffered in pre-camp workouts.
But Richardson made his presence felt after returning, running with the sort of determination and decisiveness that gives the Colts hope he can rebound from a subpar 2013 season. Richardson says he's healthier now than he was entering his two previous pro seasons, and he looks it.
FF Today's Take:Richardson has drawn a lot of criticism for, among other things, his inability to come anywhere close to matching Donald Brown's production last season. To his credit, he is a more than capable receiver with plenty of power. With Vick Ballard already done for the year and the injury-prone Ahmad Bradshaw as his only capable backup, Richardson may be set up for a massive workload. For that reason alone, he is a more than viable flex option.
Vick Ballard likely out for the season-- Fri Jul 25 9:00 pm --
Torn Achilles, MRI pending
Two days into training camp and the Colts already are dealing with their first major injury.
Running back Vick Ballard, only now returning from season-ending knee surgery last September, suffered what team owner Jim Irsay said is a likely torn left Achilles tendon during a non-contact drill Friday.(Indianapolis Star)
FF Today's Take:Ballard will have an MRI to confirm the diagnosis but it sounds like he will be lost for the season. He was active for one game in 2013 before suffering an ACL injury. Trent Richardson and Ahmad Bradshaw remain the top two options at running back for the Colts. Chris Rainey and Dan Herron are also on the roster.
Vick Ballard carted off with ankle injury-- Fri Jul 25 3:09 pm --
Colts RB injured in non-contact drill
Indianapolis Colts running back Vick Ballard was carted off the practice field today after what appeared to be a left ankle injury suffered while running a pass pattern. There was no contact involved with the injury.(Indianapolis Star)
FF Today's Take:Ballard tore his ACL early last season so this is yet another setback for the Colts running back looking to carve out a backup role behind Trent Richardson. We'll have more on the extent of Ballard's injury when details become available.
