Texans release Andre Johnson-- Mon Mar 9 3:20 pm --
End of an era
The Texans officially released Andre Johnson on Monday, ending the wide receiver’s storied 12-year career in Houston. Johnson was informed last week he would either be traded or released. The Texans parted ways with Johnson the day before free agency begins. He is now free to sign with any team in the league.(Houston Chronicle)
FF Today's Take:With no team wanting to trade for Johnson's contract, he was released... as expected. The Ravens, who are expected to lose Torrey Smith, may have an interest in the veteran wideout. DeAndre Hopkins is expected to lead the Texans in receiving this season.
Andre Johnson given permission to seek trade-- Mon Mar 2 6:24 pm --
FF Today's Take:As I wrote in my Early WR Rankings article the torch was passed to DeAndre Hopkins last season and now it appears the Texans are making it official. Johnson will be 34 in July and his contract over the next two years makes it highly unlikely the Texans can find a trade partner. If released, Johnson will certainly have a market for his services. Playoff caliber teams (NE, BAL, SEA) in need of a veteran receiver would give him an opportunity.
DeAndre Hopkins had procedure on wrist-- Sun Feb 22 9:00 pm --
Surgery to repair torn ligament
In an interview with KILT over the weekend, DeAndre Hopkins revealed he had offseason surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist. Hopkins, 22, also told the radio station he considers the procedure “minor,” adding that he should be back to normal in “a couple of weeks.”(Houston Chronicle)
FF Today's Take:Hopkins was on the Week 17 injury report, listed as Probable with a wrist injury. He caught two passes for five yards. Hopkins noted that the rod and pin is set to be removed from his wrist on Saturday. Hopkins (76-1210-6) outproduced Andre Johnson (85-963-3) this past season and finished as fantasy's No.14 wide receiver.
