Injury QB Hoyer clears concussion protocol     -- Wed Dec 30 5:09 pm --

HC gives nod to start season finale
HOUSTON -- On the brink of winning the AFC South, the Texans (8-7) are getting back their starting quarterback. Brian Hoyer has cleared the concussion protocol and will start Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, coach Bill O'Brien said. (ESPN.com)

FF Today's Take: QB Brian Hoyer has been practicing for over a week but hasn't been cleared to play in a game until today. Jacksonville has been in several shootouts over the past few weeks and the Texans have their eyes set on a division title. As a result, rolling with Hoyer in deeper formats is a worthwhile option. Hoyer's return marks an upgrade to all of Houston's players including the explosive DeAndre Hopkins.
Injury Hoyer to start Week 17 if cleared     -- Mon Dec 28 7:15 pm --

In final stage of concussion protocol
Brian Hoyer, in the final stage of the concussion protocol, will be the team's starter Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars if he passes in time, Texans coach Bill O'Brien said Monday. "(Brandon Weeden has) done a really good job," O'Brien said. "He did a good job in the Indy game, did a good job yesterday. But if Brian's healthy and cleared, he's our starter." (ESPN)

FF Today's Take: Hoyer has some darkhorse fantasy QB1 appeal if he gets the green light against the Jaguars, who have struggled against the pass all year. O'Brien indicated he has no plans to rest his players in Week 17 even if Cincinnati defeats Denver on Monday Night Football, which would give the Texans the AFC South title based on the strength-of-schedule tiebreaker. O'Brien's desire to win means owners should be able to count on another full game from DeAndre Hopkins as well.
Injury Brian Hoyer expected to miss Week 16     -- Sat Dec 26 9:00 am --

Brandon Weeden expected to start

FF Today's Take: With Hoyer out, that means Brandon Weeden will get the start against Tennessee. Weeden posted a 105-1-0 line in relief of T.J. Yates last week against the Colts. This doesn't affect the fantasy value of WR DeAndre Hopkins as Yates to Weeden is a lateral move. Tennessee is giving up the 8th-most fantasy points to quarterbacks.
Injury DeAndre Hopkins added to injury report     -- Fri Dec 11 7:30 pm --

Texans' WR has a hamstring injury
Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins was added to the injury report Friday as limited with a hamstring injury. Hopkins is expected to have his usual role Sunday night against the New England Patriots. (Houston Chronicle)

FF Today's Take: Hopkins, who has become one of the best wide receivers in the league this year, should be fine to suit up against the Pats this week. Deploy him as you usually would.
Injury Brian Hoyer ruled out for Week 11     -- Wed Nov 18 7:00 pm --

Team claims Brandon Weeden off waivers
It appears that the Houston Texans will attempt to keep their place atop the AFC South without Brian Hoyer on Sunday. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapaport reported Wednesday that Hoyer -- who suffered a concussion in Monday night's win over the Bengals -- is expected to sit out Sunday's matchup against the Jets, according to a source informed of the quarterback's situation. With Hoyer out, backup T.J. Yates is in line to make his first NFL start since Jan. 15, 2012. (NFL.com)

FF Today's Take: Houston continues to be bitten by the injury bug this season with Brian Hoyer sidelined for at least one week with a concussion. T.J. Yates is not the most appealing fantasy option going up against one of the best defenses in the league. With top receiving target DeAndre Hopkins likely to be blanketed by Darrelle Revis, Houston's offense will struggle to move the chains.
