Hopkins ends "holdout" after one day-- Mon Aug 1 9:00 am --
"I wasn't trying to send a message"
"I wasn't trying to send a message or anything like that," DeAndre Hopkins said of his contract holdout. "I was doing what I felt was best for me and my family." Hopkins is disappointed the Texans won't negotiate a contract extension with him heading into the fourth year of a $15.552 million rookie contract that included a $3.926 million signing bonus and a total of $6.181 million guaranteed.(Houston Chronicle)
FF Today's Take:Hopkins will get a new contract when it's time for him to get a new contract. The Texans have made it clear this is not the time. His status as a top-end WR1 remains in tact. Carry on...
DeAndre Hopkins a no-show at training camp-- Sat Jul 30 11:49 am --
Wants a new deal
Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is holding out of training camp as he seeks a new contract, sources told ESPN. Hopkins, who is entering the fourth and final year of his rookie contract, did not report for the start of the Texans' camp, according to sources. He will be subject to fines of $40,000 for each day of camp he misses.(ESPN)
FF Today's Take:Hopkins actually has two-years left on his deal as the Texans picked up the fifth-year option and as of now, the team isn't negotiating. We'll see how this plays out but if the holdout lasts more than a few days, expect to see Hopkins fantasy value take a slight hit. In all likelihood, he will be on the field come Week 1 and remains a high-end WR1.
