AP, Patterson eyeing new roles for Vikings-- Thu Jul 17 4:55 pm --
OC Norv Turner intent on utilizing unique weapons
Adrian Peterson has a new offensive coordinator (Norv Turner) who is intent on using him differently. Peterson will be more involved in the Vikings' passing game as Turner and Zimmer seek to convert some of his carries into receptions, giving him more room to work in the open field and making him less likely to take a pounding. Turner also has big plans for second-year WR Cordarrelle Patterson, who played mostly at split end last season. He moved to different spots during the Vikings' offseason program and Turner seems interested in getting the explosive receiver the ball as much as he can.(ESPN)
FF Today's Take:Peterson is a solid bet to top his career high in receptions (43 in 2009) while critics of a potential Patterson breakout need only look what Turner did for another gifted "raw" receiver last year in Josh Gordon. The Vikings could be a sleeping giant in terms of fantasy-point production and Minnesota is a place where owners need to look as they attempt to find sneaky fantasy value this season.
Patterson to be featured in Vikings' offense-- Mon Jun 23 8:00 am --
Greg Jennings mentoring young receiver
Greg Jennings, who had already been in town and had sat down with Zimmer and offensive coordinator Norv Turner, quickly got a sense of how prominently Cordarrelle Patterson would be featured in the Vikings' offense. A year after Patterson put a spark into the Vikings' offense despite a role that even Jennings believed needed to be bigger, there seems to be little doubt about how much the Vikings will use Patterson this season. (ESPN)
FF Today's Take:Patterson is No. 18 in my wide receiver rankings which may be a bit optimistic considering rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater may play significant time this season. However, Norv Turner's offense should lead to a significant amount of targets for the lead receiver, making the highly-talented Patterson a high upside pick in 2014.
