News From The Past 90 Days
Cowboys waive Joseph Randle     -- Mon Nov 2 2:00 pm --

Injury, off-field issues derail 2015 season
The Joseph Randle saga is over in Dallas. He has been released by the Cowboys per sources (Clarence Hill on Twitter)

FF Today's Take: Randle began the season as the Cowboys starter but suffered an oblique injury and reportedly has been dealing with off-field issues. His release elevates Darren McFadden as the clear-cut starter with Christine Michael serving in a backup role.
Joseph Randle violated personal conduct policy     -- Thu Oct 29 11:00 am --

Suspension likely
Joseph Randle is facing discipline for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, according to multiple league sources. But more likely, he'll be suspended, quite possibly for multiple games, for a February incident in Wichita, Kansas, where Randle was arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana after police received a call about domestic violence with a weapon after an incident with Randle and the mother of his son. (ESPN)

FF Today's Take: The chargers were dropped but it appears the NFL thinks the incident warrants a suspension. Randle left the team facility on Wednesday for one reason or another. Right now, Darren McFadden and Christine Michael are the running backs to own in Dallas.
Injury Darren McFadden named starter for Cowboys     -- Tue Oct 27 11:05 am --

Embattled RB gets the nod after big Week 7 performance
NFL reporter Charean Williams (‏@NFLCharean) on Twitter: "Jerry Jones says on @1053thefan that Darren McFadden will start this week." (Twitter)

FF Today's Take: Joseph Randle has an oblique injury, and Christine Michael remains a latent, hype-only value. This is welcome news for McFadden owners, and despite a tough matchup against the Seahawks, the Cowboys will likely lean on McFadden heavily and give him a lot of work in Week 8. The former Oakland Raider had 29 rushes for 152 yards and a TD, as well as 2-10-0 receiving in Week 7 against the Giants.

Darren McFadden

FF Today's Take: Randle had 2 carries for 24 yards in Week 7 while Darren McFadden operated as the clear lead running back with 29 carries for 152 yds and 1 TD. If Randle misses time, McFadden would become the back to own in the Dallas backfield.
Christine Michael likely to see more work     -- Thu Oct 15 5:50 pm --

Ex-Seahawk RB has seen two carries through five weeks
To hear it from the Cowboys coaching staff, Christine Michael may begin seeing a veterans snap count. I think were going to give him an opportunity to go out and do some more snaps. I think hes earned it, said RB coach Gary Brown on Thursday. Hes worked hard, hes been everything weve expected off the field, and hes a student of the game. Were looking forward to seeing him play. ... I think it will - not to say that the other guys dont have power, but I think he probably has a little bit more power. Weve got to take advantage of that." (

FF Today's Take: staff writer David Helman tweeted that Brown also stated "we want to take the reins off him and let him rock", suggesting Joseph Randle's playing time is about to take a hit in a major way. Dallas returns from its Week 6 bye to face two stout rush defenses (Giants and Seahawks), so expectations need to be kept in check. Expect a full-blown committee for now with Darren McFadden serving as the third-down back.
Injury Cowboys fear torn ACL for Lance Dunbar     -- Mon Oct 5 1:39 am --

MRI today
Cowboys fear Lance Dunbar tore his left ACL and MCL on opening kickoff of the second half. Dunbar will have an MRI on Monday. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FF Today's Take: The Dolphins gave Darren McFadden extra playing time in the second half of Sunday's game against the Saints. Even Christine Michael got a carry. Dunbar's role in the passing game will be missed. Joseph Randle remains the RB to own in Dallas.
RB Christine Michael set to debut for Cowboys     -- Fri Oct 2 6:55 pm --

Dallas managed -4 rushing yards in the second half last week
Christine Michael has worked with the first-team offense this week for the first time since the Dallas Cowboys acquired the enigmatic tailback from the Seattle Seahawks early last month. "That's good to see him work with our first group," offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said Thursday, via USA Today. "I think he's up to speed with the offense ... He's been coming along really good." A healthy scratch in all three games to date, Michael says he finally "has the plays down" now. "He's done well. He's working hard," coach Jason Garrett said Friday, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "... There are a lot of things to like about him." Although the Cowboys' backfield committee of Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar combined for 245 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns in last week's loss to the Falcons, they rushed for minus-4 yards after halftime. If the coaching staff is confident that Michael is ready to contribute on offense, he can offer a power-speed combination missing in the other three backs. (

FF Today's Take: Randle remains the RB to own in the Cowboys' backfield, with Dunbar having value in PPR leagues. Michael isn't even worth a bench spot at this point.
Dallas "appears" to be leaning toward Randle at RB     -- Thu Sep 10 6:50 pm --

Team maintains it feels good about its backfield
Joseph Randle has spent two years behind DeMarco Murray, who has since signed with the Eagles. In spot-duty last year, Randle rushed for 343 yards on 51 carries, with a team-best 6.7 yards per carry. Darren McFadden echoed the same sentiments. Right now, it appears the Cowboys are leaning toward Randle as the starter, but McFadden knows a thing or two about splitting carries, having done it at both Arkansas and with the Raiders the last seven years. (

FF Today's Take: Stay tuned. This is a story that has experienced twists and turns just this week and it seems like the only thing for sure is that Lance Dunbar will be the third-down back. Randle appears to be the leader in the clubhouse, but expect the Cowboys to rotate him and McFadden frequently over the course of the year until one man steps up or gets injured. Given Randle's off-field exploits and McFadden's injury history, Christine Michael needs to be on fantasy rosters as well.
Cowboys pickup RB Christine Michael from SEA     -- Sun Sep 6 12:45 pm --

Three-headed monster creates headache for fantasy owners
Dallas is trading a conditional draft pick to Seattle for RB Christine Michael, per source. RB help for Dallas. (ESPN)

FF Today's Take: The Seahawks added veteran running back Fred Jackson to the roster yesterday and waived the injured Robert Turbin (high ankle sprain). Undrafted Thomas Rawls also makes the team and will be third on the depth chart. The Cowboys have been lukewarm on their running back corps all preseason which now presents a muddy mess for fantasy owners. Joseph Randle and Darren McFadden will likely get first crack to secure snaps but Michael is someone to consider as a late-round flier.
Cowboys trying to acquire RB Ball from Broncos?     -- Fri Sep 4 3:50 pm --

Rumors abound that Dallas is looking to add the elusive RB
After maintaining all offseason that they're perfectly happy with their running back triumvirate of Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar, the Dallas Cowboys are discussing a trade for Denver Broncos running back Montee Ball, according to a report from Vic Lombardi of CBS 104.3 in Denver. Ball, a former second-round pick out of Wisconsin, was the starter for the Broncos during the early part of the 2014 season, but the combination of injuries and ineffectiveness led to him losing carries to Ronnie Hillman and C.J. Anderson. He played in just five games, starting three, and carried 55 times for a total of 172 yards (3.1 per carry) and one touchdown. (CBS Sports)

FF Today's Take: If Ball gets moved from Denver to Dallas, his fantasy value will receive a massive boost. With Randle and McFadden both underwhelming throughout camp and into the preseason, Ball would likely inherit the majority of the touches that were given to DeMarco Murray last year. Stay tuned...
