|Fitzpatrickís 2011 season mirrored that of the Bills as he started the season on a hot streak before cooling off considerably over the seasonís second half. He topped 25 fantasy points in each of his first three starts, throwing for 841 yards and 9 touchdowns in wins over the Chiefs, Raiders and Patriots. From that point on, it was mostly downhill with Fitzpatrick displaying the inconsistency that has plagued his career as he finished the season with a career-high and league-leading 24 interceptions. Rewarded with a $59-million, six-year contract extension after Week 6, his production plummeted with five games under 210 yards passing over his final ten weeks – a period in which he threw for 12 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. While injuries to running back Fred Jackson and at the wide receiver position were part of the problem, a substantial portion of the blame goes to Fitzpatrick whose accuracy got worse as the season progressed. While his season ended badly, Fitzpatrick still finished as the 11th ranked fantasy quarterback which was generally higher than predicted. Consider him an upper tier backup once again in 2012 (the Bills threw it 58% of the time in 2011) and move him down in leagues that penalize for turnovers given his propensity for throwing interceptions.
| Geno Smith suffers torn ACL -- Mon Oct 24 12:21 pm --|
Ryan Fitzpatrick expected to start Week 8
|Sources: Based on initial MRI, belief is that #Jets QB Geno Smith tore his ACL. Incredible. Players in the locker room are learning about it (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)|
FF Today's Take: Smith's time as the Jets No.1 QB was brief. He'll know have to wait a calendar year before getting a crack at a starting job again. Expect Ryan Fitzpatrick to be the starter Week 8 but given his uneven play it's not out of the question for Christian Hackenberg and/or Bryce Petty to see action toward the end of the season.
|Geno Smith to start for Jets -- Wed Oct 19 11:45 am --|
Jets need a spark
|Desperate for a spark, the New York Jets are turning to Geno Smith as their quarterback.
League sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that Smith will replace Ryan Fitzpatrick, who has compiled an 11-11 record as the Jets' starter over two seasons. (ESPN)|
FF Today's Take: The Jets season is circling the drain and with Ryan Fitzpatrick struggling with interceptions, the team is shifting to Smith who promptly through an interception on his one of his six attempts last week. Smith won't be a fantasy option. The Ravens-D makes for a nice streaming option in Week 7.
| Jets place Eric Decker on IR -- Wed Oct 12 11:00 am --|
Expected to have shoulder surgery
|The Jets will likely be without one of their biggest offensive weapons the rest of the way.
Wide receiver Eric Decker is being placed on injured reserve, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday. Decker is expected to have shoulder surgery, which will likely result in his season being over. He tried to get back on the field but couldn't do it, Rapoport added. (NFL.com)|
FF Today's Take: This is a big loss for Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Jets offense. Quincy Enunwa will continue to fill the No.2 wide receiver role with Decker out and expect Robby Anderson to see slight bump in snaps but he won't be a fantasy option. the Jets recently claimed Jeremy Butler off the Buccaneers practice squad.
