Outlook: Daniels was having a phenomenal run in 2009 before he was lost for the season with a torn ACL. He had averaged 11.4 fantasy points per game during the first seven weeks, and he may have finished as the top-ranked fantasy tight end if he had not been injured in Week 8. He is clearly an injury risk heading into 2010, but the Texans figure to have a solid offense again in 2010, with Daniels getting plenty of opportunities in the passing game. Clearly there is some risk here given the injury occurred at the halfway point of last season, but if Daniels is fully recovered by Week 1, he will be in the top 5 in 2010. However, a full recovery by opening day seems unlikely, so fantasy owners should temper their enthusiasm.
Comment:Daniels suffered a torn ACL on Nov. 1, and was at the time having the best season of his career. He has been cleared to practice with the team and hopes to be ready for Week 1.
Texans' Owen Daniels signs tender-- Fri Jun 11 7:45 pm -- Star TE continues recovery from knee surgery
Houston Texans tight end Owen Daniels has signed his restricted free agent tender. The 6-foot-3, 245-pound Daniels sat out the team's just-completed organized team activities as he continues to recover from knee surgery. Daniels tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in the eighth game last season. Daniels is second in team history with 207 receptions and 2,501 receiving yards and third in touchdowns with 15 in 54 career games. Daniels was selected to the Pro Bowl after the 2008 season.(USAToday.com)
FF Today's Take:Before last season's unfortunate knee injury, Daniels was part of the NFL's elite class of receiving tight ends. Until he starts practicing, it'll be difficult to forecast impressive numbers from the 27-year-old in 2010.
