2016 Outlook

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and the Redskins see some beauty in Garcon because they paid him to be a number one wide receiver although he has never fulfilled that role. In Garcon, the Redskins add a player to their roster with enough talent in terms of size, speed and ability to adjust to poorly throw passes but one who has frustrated his coaches and quarterbacks with his frequent drops and questionable route running. If Garcon can learn the nuances of the position and avoid mental lapses, he could emerge as one of the league’s top receivers. Of course, he will need rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III to be an accurate passer early in his rookie season for Garcon to top 1,000 receiving yards for the first time in his career. It is also worth noting that despite being on the receiving end of passes from perhaps the most accurate quarterback in the history of the league (Peyton Manning), Garcon caught just 55.1% of his passes during his first three years. On the plus side, he had a career year in 2011 catching passes from the likes of Kerry Collins, Curtis Painter and Dan Orlovsky. That provides some comfort and indicates that even with Griffin under center, Garcon’s downside (barring injury) figures to be his 2011 production where he finished as the 22nd ranked fantasy wide receiver. Although, that ranking was burnished by a number of injuries and poor performances to receivers across the league. Garcon should be considered a low-end WR3 with upside entering 2012.

News From The Past 90 Days
Redskins sign WR Terrelle Pryor     -- Thu Mar 9 4:00 pm --

One-year deal
After Terrelle Pryor left Washington Friday morning without a contract, the former Browns wide receiver ended up signing a one-year, $8 million contract with the Redskins Friday afternoon. (Washington Post)

FF Today's Take: After losing Desean Jackson (TB) and Pierre Garcon (SF) in free agency the Redskins have bolstered their receiving corps by signing Pryor who topped 1000 yards last season with the Browns finishing 22nd among fantasy wideouts. Pryor will compete with TE Jordan Reed and Jamison Crowder for targets and will be valued as a WR2/3 in redraft leagues.
49ers in on WRs Garcon and Goodwin     -- Wed Mar 8 2:10 pm --

Rebuilding WR corps
WR Marquise Goodwin is signing with the 49ers, per source. Redskins were interested, but Goodwin like his other options available. Reports indicate Redskins WR Pierre Garcon will be heading to the San Francisco 49ers on a heavily front-loaded contract. (Washington Post)

FF Today's Take: The 49ers and new coach Kyle Shanahan are rebuilding there wide receiver group. Torrey Smith is gone and it appears Garcon and Goodwin are in once free agents can officially sign on Thursday. Goodwin is a speedster who averaged 14.9 yards per catch with Buffalo last season. Garcon played for Shanahan while the two were together in Washington.
Redskins re-sign TE Vernon Davis     -- Wed Mar 8 9:00 am --

Three-year deal
After a pleasantly surprising comeback season last year, the Redskins have signed Vernon Davis to a new deal, the team announced Wednesday. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the deal is for three years and is worth $15 million. (NFL.com)

FF Today's Take: Davis held some TE2 fantasy value last season in Washington's pass-happy offense and was on the TE1 radar when Jordan Reed was sidelined by injury. With the potential of losing receivers Desean Jackson and Pierre Garcon, Davis could see his usage escalate in 2017 but his fantasy value is more closely aligned with the health of Reed.
