Outlook: Jackson was the most explosive big-play receiver in the league last year, finishing the season with nine touchdowns and an eye-popping average of 18.5 yards per reception. He topped 1,000 yards in his second season, finishing the year with 1,156. Jackson is clearly still developing at receiver, and because of that he possesses major upside. Still, banking on him to produce the same number of big plays in 2010 as he had in 2009 is risky, so his fantasy ranking should be based more on continued improvement as a receiver on short and intermediate patterns. Given his production during his first two years in the league, it seems a safe bet that improvement will occur in 2010. The trade of Donovan McNabb to the Redskins affects his value only minimally, as Kevin Kolb seems ready to emerge at quarterback. The question with Jackson is about value. If somebody in your league thinks he’s ready to emerge as a top five receiver, let them reach for Jackson. If you can get him as a bottom-tier WR1, the value is there.
DeSean Jackson OK after leaving game-- Sat Aug 28 11:30 am -- Jackson exit just precautionary
DeSean Jackson strained his neck on the Eagles' first play from scrimmage against the Chiefs on Friday night and did not return to the game. Jackson's early injury looked serious, but coach Andy Reid said after the game that Jackson was kept out of action only as a precaution.
(The Philadelphia Inquirer)
FF Today's Take:No need to drop Jackson down your rankings due to this injury. He will still be one of the top ten wideouts taken in your draft.
Eagles' WRs not getting along?-- Wed Aug 11 5:40 pm -- Maclin, Jackson exchange words during practice
Though engaged in an "animated exchange" as Tuesday morning's practice ended, Jeremy Maclin and DeSean Jackson insist it was nothing worth rehashing. But the argument brings into question the relationship that exists between two hard-working, ambitious receivers. There are only so many passes to go around -- even in the Eagles' pass-heavy offense -- when you factor in the starting wide receivers, a sure-handed third receiver in Jason Avant, a Pro Bowl-caliber tight end in Brent Celek, and pass-catching running backs led by LeSean McCoy.(Philadelphia Inquirer)
FF Today's Take:Though the Eagles' plethora of talented receivers may not be singing Kumbaya this season, their offense remains as dangerous as ever. Even if a few injuries strike their receiving corps in 2010, Kevin Kolb will have no shortage of targets.
Eagles dealing with offensive injuries-- Mon Aug 2 8:00 am -- WR DeSean Jackson and RB Mike Bell lead infirmary list
DeSean Jackson sat out practice Sunday, and more Birds might join them on the training-camp sideline Monday. That's because running back Mike Bell left practice early. Bell's injury, at first glance, appeared to be the most serious: The hard-running No. 2 halfback pulled up while running in the open field and crumpled to the ground, grasping his left hamstring.
After a strong morning practice, Bell cursed when trainers had to cart him off the field. Bell later left the locker room with his left leg in a compression wrap and, clearly not in the mood to talk, said simply, "I'm all right."
He did not appear to have a noticeable limp. Wide receiver Jackson was out with a back strain suffered in Saturday's practice, according to the team.(Philadelphia Enquirer)
FF Today's Take:Bell's injury is worth watching as he's slated to be a significant contributor in the Eagles' offense behind starter LeSean McCoy. If Bell misses significant practice time, Leonard Weaver would see an increased role in the running game. Jackson's back injury is not considered serious but will likely keep him out of practice. He's listed as day-to-day.
