Jets might cut Darrelle Revis in 2017 -- Tue Nov 1 11:17 am --
Once-great CB declining -- and due a whopping $15 million next season
Rich Cimini on ESPN: "Once considered a transcendent talent at cornerback, Darrelle Revis' play has deteriorated to the point that the Jets may skip the switch to safety and simply release him after the season." (ESPN)
FF Today's Take: Revis is due to make $15 million in 2017, including a $2 million roster bonus on the second day of the league year in March -- a deadline that will force the Jets (and Revis) to make a decision. At this point, the Jets are a team to target with opposing QBs and WRs.
Revis and Decker miss Jets' practice -- Wed Oct 5 7:22 pm --
Both players uncertain for Sunday
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) -- Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis and wide receiver Eric Decker sat out practice Wednesday with injuries, and they're both uncertain for New York's game at Pittsburgh on Sunday. (AP)
FF Today's Take: Eric Decker's shoulder injury is worrisome for his fantasy owners. At best, he is a game-time decision if he can practice later in the week. Darrelle Revis' injury could open the flood gates for Pittsburgh's passing attack. The Jets have already allowed seven plays of over 40 yards this year (most in the NFL).
Sammy Watkins active for Week 2 -- Thu Sep 15 7:30 pm --
Earlier reports suggested team doctors may not clear him
The Bills submitted their list of seven inactive players ahead of Thursday night’s game vs. the Jets, and wide receiver Sammy Watkins was not on it. That means Watkins is active and in the starting lineup. He had been listed as questionable due to a foot injury. A report earlier Thursday said Watkins wanted to play but said team doctors might not clear him. He’s probably still playing in pain and possibly at less than 100 percent, but he’s going to play — at least as long as he can. (Pro Football Talk)
FF Today's Take: If the fact two defensive-minded teams getting together for the pass-killing spectre that is often Thursday Night Football didn't sour owners on Watkins this week, then perhaps not getting a full game out of him against a highly motivated Darrelle Revis should. This week should be all about getting him through the game without a setback. Owners deep at WR should consider benching him; those that are not should expect WR3 production.
Sammy Watkins listed as Questionable -- Wed Sep 14 1:10 pm --
Wide receiver Sammy Watkins declared he will definitely be in the lineup, but the Bills weren’t willing to go that far. They listed Watkins as questionable after he reported his surgically-repaired foot felt “tired” after the opener. There were reports that Watkins could miss extended time as a result, although the Bills and Watkins have both refuted that idea. (ProFootballTalk)
FF Today's Take: In all likelihood, Watkins will play but how effective he will be remains a question mark. Watkins posted 11 catches for 136 yards in his last meeting against Darrelle Revis and the Jets.
Sammy Watkins likely to go Week 2 -- Mon Sep 12 6:30 pm --
WR thought he re-broke surgically repaired foot in Week 1
With a short week before Thursday's tilt with the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills receiver Sammy Watkins was sent to get X-rays. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reports that Watkins is playing with pain in his surgically repaired foot, had X-rays and was sent to foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson for review. Rapoport added that at one point after the Bills' 13-7 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Watkins thought he had re-broken his foot or the screw which was inserted this offseason. The star receiver didn't break the foot, but will likely have to play through pain this season. There is nothing surgically to do with the injury and the Bills don't plan to shut Watkins down. (Chris Brown on Twitter)
FF Today's Take: BuffaloBills.com reporter Chris Brown later tweeted Watkins "got his foot checked out and it's fine". The Bills have a Thursday game against the Jets this week, so at least owners won't have to guess in regards to whether he will play or not. Assuming he can go, he should be in fantasy lineups. Watkins torched Darrelle Revis in Week 17 last season and A.J. Green did likewise in Week 1.
