| Clowney likely out 4-6 weeks -- Mon Sep 8 3:50 pm --|
Torn lateral meniscus
|Texans OLB Jadeveon Clowney left Sunday's win in the second quarter with a knee injury and didn't return. On Monday, HC Bill O'Brien gave an update on the rookie's status.
"He underwent arthroscopic surgery this morning," O'Brien said. "He'll probably be out for about four to six weeks."
Clowney also suffered a concussion during the week of practice in Denver, and missed the preseason games against the Broncos and 49ers. In June, he had surgery for a sports hernia. (houstontexans.com)|
FF Today's Take: J.J. Watt was a one-man wrecking crew in Houston's win over Washington, but Clowney's absence should allow upcoming opponents to send more blockers his way. The Texans will move forward with Brooks Reed and Whitney Mercilus at outside linebacker. Although Reed was borderline dominant in his own right on Sunday, Mercilus has yet to live up to his first-round draft status.
|Texans trade QB Yates to Falcons for LB Dent -- Thu Jun 19 3:10 pm --|
Previous reports stated Yates had been released on Tuesday
|Reports of T.J. Yates' release by the Texans were exaggerated. Or maybe just erroneous. On Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported that Yates had been cut, on the same day coach Bill O’Brien named Ryan Fitzpatrick the starter. Now, it appears the Texans have actually traded Yates to the Falcons.
In return, Houston gets LB Akeem Dent. A third-round pick in 2011, Dent appeared in 15 games with seven starts last season. In 2012, he appeared in 16 regular-season games, with 13 starts. (Pro Football Talk)|
FF Today's Take: Apparently, once word got out that the Texans would be releasing Yates, teams started calling to inquire about a trade. The Falcons, who would have been fairly close to the top of the waiver priority list, obviously wanted to make sure they didn't leave their potential backup to Matt Ryan to chance. Houston gets a player that projects to be a potential early-down inside linebacker only since he is a plus-run defender but a liability in the passing game.
