|Despite having the productive Davone Bess on the roster, the Dolphins chose to sign Gibson to a three-year, $9.8-million contract. Consider that a head scratcher. While Gibson was solid last year in St. Louis as the team's leading receiver with career highs in yards (691) and touchdowns (5), it is telling that the receiver-needy Rams didn't even attempt to re-sign him. With Gibson, the Dolphins are getting a player with decent size, average speed and minimal play-making ability. He's not really built to play out of the slot, either, which is where he is expected to line up in 2013. Move on, folks.
| Brandon Gibson out for season -- Mon Oct 28 3:50 pm --|
Torn patella tendon
|Brandon Gibson left the field on a cart Sunday after suffering a first-half knee injury against the New England Patriots. NFL Media's Albert Breer reports the initial diagnosis for Gibson is that his knee injury likely is season-ending, according to a source briefed on his injury. The injury is believed to be a torn patella tendon.
Gibson was injured coming down on his left knee after attempting to make a leaping catch on a high Ryan Tannehill pass. He was limping badly as he came off the field.
FF Today's Take: Gibson had actually emerged as a reliable slot option for Ryan Tannehill, so his loss will be an underrated loss for the Dolphins. Rishard Matthews saw a season-high 37 snaps in his absence and needs to be on the radar for owners in deeper leagues. However, it is just as likely that Gibson's absence means more targets for Charles Clay and Brian Hartline, who make most of their catches in the short-to-intermediate passing game.
