2016 Outlook
Depth Chart
Julian Edelman was only able to play in nine regular season games last year before breaking his foot, but caught 61 passes for 692 yards and 7 touchdowns. His surgically repaired foot is said to be doing fine and while the team may be cautious with him during training camp, the start of the season is not considered to be in danger. Edelman has been Tom Brady’s security blanket since Wes Welker departed, due to his route running, sure hands and toughness over the middle. The former college quarterback is the master of taking the short pass in the flat and turning up field quickly to gain extra yards, a staple play in this offense that has become almost indefensible. With the offense not expected to change much during Brady’s early season absence, Edelman should still be the focal point of the quick passing game. Edelman’s seven touchdowns last season were a career high so fantasy owners should be careful not to over project based on those TDs coming in only nine games. They should however feel free to pencil Edelman in for the 90-plus catches barring injury.

Cooks, Patriots deal gets done
Saints get Patriots 1st round pick in 2017
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Mar 10, 8:50 pm

New England Patriots
Continuing their aggressive offseason blitz, the New England Patriots have agreed to trade their 2017 first-round draft choice to the New Orleans Saints in exchange for receiver Brandin Cooks, sources tell ESPN's Dianna Russini. The first-round pick is No. 32 overall, the last selection of the round. The Patriots also will trade a third-round pick (No. 103) to New Orleans and receive the Saints' fourth-round pick (No. 118), sources tell Russini. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: This deal was rumored over the last couple days and now it's complete. The juicy part is CB Malcolm Butler remains in New England. The signing of Ted Ginn Jr. made a Cooks trade more likely and now the Patriots have acquired one of most explosive young receivers in the league. Michael Thomas and Willie Snead see their fantasy value inflated in New Orleans while Julian Edelman's value will take a hit in New England.

Michael Floyd expected to be inactive
A healthy scratch, other areas of need
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Feb 5, 8:00 am

New England Patriots
Barring an unexpected change, I'm told Patriots wide receiver Michael Floyd will be inactive for Super Bowl LI as the team doesn't have the luxury to carry five players at the position on the 46-man game-day roster. It needs the spots for other areas, such as special teams and goal-line situations. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: The Patriots will roll with Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan, Danny Amendola and Malcolm Mitchell at the wide receiver position.

Injury Malcolm Mithchell doubtful, knee injury
Not expected to play against Miami
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Dec 31, 7:00 am

New England Patriots
Rookie wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell is doubtful after both players missed practice Friday. (NESN)

FFToday's Take: Mitchell missed practice Friday with a knee injury and while likely be inactive on Sunday. With his absence, expect Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan and Michael Floyd to be the top three wideouts for Tom Brady. Hogan is worthy of Flex consideration.
