2015 Outlook
Depth Chart
When presented with the opportunity to leave Cleveland as a free agent and sign with a quarterback-needy team, Brian Hoyer was more than a little interested. Hoyer also has some familiarity within the offense after cutting his teeth as a pro in New England, where current Texans Head Coach Bill O’Brien was the offensive coordinator at the time. He signed a modest deal but is clearly making more than his primary competition, Ryan Mallett. For these reasons, Hoyer should be considered the front runner for the starting job, but he’ll need to have a strong preseason to shut the door. The Texans know Hoyer has flaws but are hoping he will be successful using a “try not to do too much” approach behind a strong ground game and solid defense. His receivers are solid but not spectacular, and the team’s offensive focus remains in the backfield.

Injury QB Hoyer clears concussion protocol
HC gives nod to start season finale
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Dec 30, 5:09 pm

Houston Texans
HOUSTON -- On the brink of winning the AFC South, the Texans (8-7) are getting back their starting quarterback. Brian Hoyer has cleared the concussion protocol and will start Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, coach Bill O'Brien said. (ESPN.com)

FFToday's Take: QB Brian Hoyer has been practicing for over a week but hasn't been cleared to play in a game until today. Jacksonville has been in several shootouts over the past few weeks and the Texans have their eyes set on a division title. As a result, rolling with Hoyer in deeper formats is a worthwhile option. Hoyer's return marks an upgrade to all of Houston's players including the explosive DeAndre Hopkins.

Injury Hoyer to start Week 17 if cleared
In final stage of concussion protocol
By: Doug Orth | Mon Dec 28, 7:15 pm

Houston Texans
Brian Hoyer, in the final stage of the concussion protocol, will be the team's starter Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars if he passes in time, Texans coach Bill O'Brien said Monday. "(Brandon Weeden has) done a really good job," O'Brien said. "He did a good job in the Indy game, did a good job yesterday. But if Brian's healthy and cleared, he's our starter." (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Hoyer has some darkhorse fantasy QB1 appeal if he gets the green light against the Jaguars, who have struggled against the pass all year. O'Brien indicated he has no plans to rest his players in Week 17 even if Cincinnati defeats Denver on Monday Night Football, which would give the Texans the AFC South title based on the strength-of-schedule tiebreaker. O'Brien's desire to win means owners should be able to count on another full game from DeAndre Hopkins as well.

Injury Brian Hoyer expected to miss Week 16
Brandon Weeden expected to start

FFToday's Take: With Hoyer out, that means Brandon Weeden will get the start against Tennessee. Weeden posted a 105-1-0 line in relief of T.J. Yates last week against the Colts. This doesn't affect the fantasy value of WR DeAndre Hopkins as Yates to Weeden is a lateral move. Tennessee is giving up the 8th-most fantasy points to quarterbacks.

Injury Hoyer practices for second straight day
Recovering from multiple concussions
By: Doug Orth | Thu Dec 24, 5:25 pm

Houston Texans
Texans QB Brian Hoyer was practicing again (Thursday). WR Cecil Shorts (hamstring) and S Rahim Moore (illness) still are not practicing. (Tania Ganguli on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Shorts and Moore have both been ruled out for Week 16 while Hoyer is trending in the right direction after suffering two concussions in less than a month. Shorts' absence should give Nate Washington and rookie Jaelen Strong a bump in targets while a return by Hoyer would be good for the entire Texans' passing attack. If Hoyer cannot go, Houston will be forced to go with Brandon Weeden versus the Tennessee Titans.

Injury Brian Hoyer (concussion) likely out multiple weeks
Texans concerned after his second head injury in a month
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Dec 15, 9:45 am

Houston Texans
Ed Werder (@Edwerderespn) on Twitter: "#Texans worried Brian Hoyer's latest concussion and other injuries could cause QB to be out for a while. I'm told player is concerned." (Twitter)

FFToday's Take: This is Hoyer second concussion inside of a month, and it appears that T.J. Yates will assume duties under center for the foreseeable future in Houston. Considering the favorable matchup in Indy, Yates might not be a terrible option in Week 15.

Injury Brian Hoyer ruled out for Week 11
Team claims Brandon Weeden off waivers
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Nov 18, 7:00 pm

Houston Texans
It appears that the Houston Texans will attempt to keep their place atop the AFC South without Brian Hoyer on Sunday. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapaport reported Wednesday that Hoyer -- who suffered a concussion in Monday night's win over the Bengals -- is expected to sit out Sunday's matchup against the Jets, according to a source informed of the quarterback's situation. With Hoyer out, backup T.J. Yates is in line to make his first NFL start since Jan. 15, 2012. (NFL.com)

FFToday's Take: Houston continues to be bitten by the injury bug this season with Brian Hoyer sidelined for at least one week with a concussion. T.J. Yates is not the most appealing fantasy option going up against one of the best defenses in the league. With top receiving target DeAndre Hopkins likely to be blanketed by Darrelle Revis, Houston's offense will struggle to move the chains.
