|Browns agree with Josh McCown, 3-year deal|
Hoyer not likely to be re-signed
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Feb 27, 5:45 pm
|The Browns agreed to terms with Josh McCown, 35, on a three-year deal Friday after a bidding war between the Browns and Bills, who are now coached by Rex Ryan. McCown's signing decreases the chances that the Browns will re-sign Brian Hoyer. (Cleveland Plain Dealer)|
FFToday's Take: The fact that there was a "bidding war" for McCown's services is good indication of just how weak the free agent quarterback class is this season. McCown is familiar with offensive coordinator John DeFilippo from their days in Oakland (2007) and is expected to serve as a mentor for Johnny Manziel. With no receiving options to speak of, McCown is nothing more than a QB2 in fantasy leagues.
| Hoyer focused on starting season finale|
Status to be determined Sunday
By: Jake Gordon | Tue Dec 23, 9:00 pm
|BEREA, Ohio -- Quarterback Brian Hoyer doesn't want to end his season -- and possibly his Browns career -- on the sidelines with a shoulder injury.
"I'm focusing on trying to get as healthy as I can,'' he said. Hoyer sat out Tuesday's light practice with the shoulder injury suffered during Sunday's 17-13 loss to the Panthers. If he's not better by Sunday, practice squad rookie Connor Shaw will be elevated and start the game. (Cleveland.com)|
FFToday's Take: None of the Browns' offensive weapons are great fantasy plays for Week 17 against Baltimore, however TE Jordan Cameron and WR Josh Gordon would have better outlooks If QB Brian Hoyer (shoulder) was under center for Cleveland. Before plugging a Cleveland Brown into you starting lineup check in on the quarterback situation Sunday.
| Johnny Manziel (hamstring) out for year|
Connor Shaw could get start Week 17
By: Doug Orth | Mon Dec 22, 4:40 pm
|Browns HC Mike Pettine: "Brian Hoyer (shoulder) has not been ruled out. Connor Shaw will get a good amount of reps. Exploring other options." (Mary Kay Cabot on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Johnny Manziel's disappointing two-game run as the Browns' starter is over. The Browns already know what they have with Hoyer, so it would come as a surprise if they didn't turn to Shaw after he was arguably the most impressive quarterback in their camp during the preseason. Shaw can run a little bit and showed in his final year at South Carolina that he could make good decisions in Steve Spurrier's offense. Perhaps Shaw can give Cleveland's offense the jump-start it desperately needs.
|Johnny Manziel to start for Cleveland|
Browns make switch at QB
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Dec 9, 1:15 pm
|The Johnny Manziel era in Cleveland Browns football is officially under way. Fox's Jay Glazer was the first to report the news that Manziel will start.
The former Heisman Trophy winner will start his first NFL game Sunday against the 8-4-1 Bengals at FirstEnergy Stadium, taking over a 7-6 Browns team that Hoyer guided to the brink of the playoffs.
(Cleveland Plain Dealer)|
FFToday's Take: The writing was on the wall after a second dismal performance from Brian Hoyer. Manziel will step into a decent fantasy situation now that Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron are back in the mix. The Bengals-D has been solid against opposing fantasy QBs despite being torched by Ben Roethlisberger last week for 350 yards and 3 TDs.
