2015 Outlook
Depth Chart
New Orleans is an interesting place for C.J. Spiller to land, and I mean that in a good way. The changes are vast for Spiller as he heads to a dome in the South, leaving an outdoor stadium in the North. He goes to an offense that features an elite quarterback and head coach that are far more adept to putting up yardage than the Buffalo Bills in recent years. Spiller has changed conferences and divisions, a combination that will undoubtedly result in more games played in warmer climates under milder conditions. He appears destined for a Sproles-like role that should see him reach 50 receptions for the first time in his career. Spiller will have plenty of motivation to succeed right out of the gate as he is mixed in as a dual-threat running back. The team would likely turn to a RBBC should Ingram fail to make it through the season. As was the case for Sproles, Spiller’s fantasy stock gets a tremendous bump in PPR formats. Where you value Spiller likely depends on your league’s scoring settings, so adjust accordingly.

Spiller a good bet to remain on the roster?
Will be cheaper to keep than to cut prior to June 1
By: Doug Orth | Mon Feb 1, 7:25 pm

New Orleans
C.J. Spiller's first year in New Orleans was a flop, partly because of a minor knee surgery he underwent during training camp. But if the Saints cut him before June 1, he will actually count more against the cap ($5.3 million) than if they keep him. So there's a good chance they'll give him another summer to regain his spark. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: With Mark Ingram, Spiller, Khiry Robinson and Tim Hightower among others on the roster, the expectation is the Saints will be able to "downsize" at running back this season. There is still much mystery as to why Spiller became such an afterthought in his first year in New Orleans. An injury-free offseason will be huge for Spiller, who could be a late-round fantasy value this summer if he is able to seize the Darren Sproles/Pierre Thomas role many thought he might earn last year.

Injury Spiller won't need another knee surgery
HC Sean Payton: "I was frustrated for him"
By: Doug Orth | Thu Dec 31, 7:25 pm

New Orleans
New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton said he doesn't think C.J. Spiller needs a second surgery after being placed on injured reserve Wednesday. Spiller played only sporadically but never expressed his frustration about his involvement in the offseason. "Not once during the year was he ever complaining about touches," Payton said. "He's been fantastic in his preparation. ... He's someone that I know we as an organization and certainly myself as a head coach working with the offense are excited to see that through. I do feel like he's got some unique skill sets and I was frustrated for him at times because he was 100 percent and wasn't back fully with the strength in his leg to do some of the things you're used to seeing." (New Orleans Time-Picayune)

FFToday's Take: This is interesting take for Payton, who spent a lot of time over the first half of the season saying he was trying to find a way to get Spiller touches when he could have simply said his prized free agent needed to regain his explosion. Assuming Spiller returns - and it sounds like Payton wants that to happen - he'll make for an interesting post-hype mid-to-late round fantasy option as many owners try to steer clear from one of fantasy's biggest disappointments this season.

Injury Mark Ingram placed on IR
Shoulder injury
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Dec 9, 5:00 pm

New Orleans
New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram has been placed on injured reserve. Ingram reportedly injured his shoulder, and was not present during the portion of practice open to the media on Wednesday. He was officially placed on IR Wednesday afternoon. (NOLA.com)

FFToday's Take: The Saints worst fears were confirmed after tests on Mark Ingram's shoulder this afternoon. This marks the third straight season that Ingram has failed to stay healthy. The door is wide open for C.J. Spiller to become the lead back a what will probably become a RBBC with Tim Hightower also factoring into the mix. Both running backs are worth picking up with Spiller getting more value in PPR formats.

Injury Mark Ingram dealing with serious shoulder issue?
Could be season-ending
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Dec 9, 1:29 pm

New Orleans
I'm told Saints RB Mark Ingram is dealing with a serious shoulder injury. There is some fear it could be season ending. (Rand Getlin on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: If true, this would be another huge blow to the fantasy running back position as Ingram has been a top five performer on the season. Tim Hightower and C.J. Spiller are next up on the depth chart. It's difficult to imagine either one taking on Ingram's full workload. Some form of RBBC would likely take place.
