2016 Outlook
Depth Chart
Ryan Mathews was signed early in free agency by the Eagles last off-season and was presumed to be the team’s starting running back, until DeMarco Murray surprisingly signed with the team for big money a few days later. Mathews often looked like the better back on the team last season, but salary considerations and Kelly’s pride saw to it that Murray would be getting the bigger workload when healthy. Mathews has always been a solid producer, but has all too often found himself sidelined by injuries. He’s expected to be the lead back in a RBBC and his skill set is a good fit for the offensive system, but the team has raved about Darren Sproles while Mathews was sidelined with an ankle sprain and Sproles has long been one of the league’s better receivers out of the backfield. Still it wouldn’t be hard to predict a season like Mathews had in San Diego in 2011 when he ran for 1,091 yards and 6 touchdowns while also catching 50 balls for 455 yards. The downside comes in the fact that he has missed 23 games during his six seasons in the league.

Injury Opportunity knocks for Eagles RB Byron Marshall
Ryan Mathews placed on IR
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Dec 28, 1:05 pm

Philadelphia Eagles
With Ryan Mathews joining fellow running backs Wendell Smallwood and Kenjon Barner on injured reserve, the Eagles have just two running backs on their roster: Darren Sproles and Byron Marshall. Marshall, an undrafted rookie out of Oregon, was promoted from the practice squad two weeks ago after Smallwood was placed on IR with a knee injury. “Right now, the plan is (to primarily use) Darren,’’ Pederson said. “But for sure we’ll see a little more of (Marshall) on first and second down, and even some third-down situations. (Philly.com)

FFToday's Take: With Ryan Mathews (back) out, the Eagles will need to rely on Bryon Marshall to complement Darren Sproles in the backfield Sunday. The rookie had 11 touches last week and could see a few more against the Cowboys. Marshall may not have a ton of upside but he may become a nice backup option if your typical starter is in danger of sitting out this weekend. Meanwhile, Ryan Mathews may become a salary cap casualty after the season despite scoring nine touchdowns on 776 total yards in 2016.

Injury Darren Sproles out for Week 15
Concussion

Eagles RB Darren Sproles out Sunday vs. Ravens. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: With Sproles missing the game due to a concussion suffered last week, expect Ryan Mathews and Kenjon Barner to handle rushing duties. Mathews will have a difficult matchup going against a Ravens defense that's allowed the fewest fantasy points to running backs this season.

Injury Ryan Mathews ready to return
Missed two games with knee injury
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Dec 8, 10:00 am

Philadelphia Eagles
Ryan Mathews practiced Wednesday for the first time since he injured his knee Nov. 20. The Eagles' leading rusher is expected to play Sunday against the Washington Redskins. "He's good to play," coach Doug Pederson said. "He's cleared and ready to go." (Philadephia Inquirer)

FFToday's Take: Mathews is back meaning the Eagles add one more running back to their committee. Even in a decent matchup against the Redskins, it's hard to get excited about Mathews as anything more than a Flex option given the current state of the offense but he is the preferred back around the goaline.

Jordan Matthews returns to practice
WR dealing with ankle injury but expected to play Week 14
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Wed Dec 7, 11:42 am

Philadelphia Eagles
Jeff McLane (@Jeff_McLane) on Twitter: "Doug Pederson: DGB (oblique contusion) and Big V (knee) won't practice today. Jordan Matthews and Ryan Mathews will, expected to play Sun." (Twitter)

FFToday's Take: With Dorial Green-Beckham suffering the ill effects of a Vontaze Burfict collision, Matthews makes for a fine WR3 play this week. Fire up Ryan Mathews (sprained MCL) as well.

Injury Mathews and Matthews miss practice for Eagles
Jordan Matthews expected to play
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Nov 30, 1:05 pm

Philadelphia Eagles
Running back Ryan Mathews (knee), Jordan Matthews (ankle) headline the walking wounded. Mathews remains officially listed as day-to-day and Pederson explained that he is "doing good," but was held out of practice as a precaution. Pederson said that Matthews will be fine for the game after X-rays on his ankle were negative. (NJ.com)

FFToday's Take: Ryan Mathews is likely to miss Week 13 with his knee injury but it sounds like WR Jordan Matthews will be available after spraining his ankle Monday night. Matthews will be on the WR3 radar against the Bengals.
