2018 Outlook
Depth Chart
Gronkowski is the definition of a league-winning player when healthy and arguably the most dominant player to ever play the tight end position. With five seasons of double-digit touchdowns, including a career-high 17 in 2011, Gronk delivers elite wide receiver numbers at a shallow position filled with few competitors.

At just 29 years of age, Gronk presumably has multiple years left as an elite tight end as he continues to build his resume for Canton. But injuries continue to plague the former Arizona Wildcat star who managed to play in just 21 combined games over the past two seasons.

A conventional narrative in the fantasy industry is owners should try to be one of the first to draft a tight end or one of the last, with the pool of players in the middle of the group indiscernible from their peers. As the consensus top-ranked tight end, Gronk possesses a unique ability to win a week on his own and a player who is worth the risk as a second round pick. But owners who draft Gronkowski should have a viable replacement for the weeks in which the outspoken TE is out with an injury.

Injury Gronkowski doesn't travel with team
Highly unlikely to play in Week 7
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Oct 20, 4:30 pm

New England Patriots
Patriots’ TE Rob Gronkowski is “highly unlikely” to play Sunday vs. Bears as he didn't travel with the team to Chicago, per source. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Gronkowski has yet be ruled out officially but that will likely come tomorrow. He's battled ankle and back injuries recently and doesn't seem to be his usual "Gronk" self on the field. In his absence, Dwayne Allen will likely start but isn't a viable fantasy options. Julian Edelman Josh Gordon and James White should lead the team in receiving.

Injury Gronk, Edelman active for Week 5
TE working through ankle injury, WR coming off suspension
By: Doug Orth | Thu Oct 4, 7:10 pm

New England Patriots
Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (ankle) and WE Julian Edelman (suspension) officially active tonight. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)

FFToday's Take: There was some doubt earlier in the week about Gronkowski, but he's going to go against a shorthanded Colts defense that gave up a combined seven catches on nine targets to Washington in Week 2 and 12 receptions for 146 yards and a score in Week 3 against Philadelphia. He should be starting everywhere. Edelman is a bit of a different story in that he could be rusty, but he's usually good for about 10 targets every time he plays, so owners should find a spot for him in their lineups as well.

Injury Gronk expected to be active
Ankle injury
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Oct 4, 8:00 am

New England Patriots
Patriots’ TE Rob Gronkowski is expected to be active tonight vs. the Colts despite the questionable status that limited his practice time this week as well as his availability Sunday, per source. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: There's a difference between "active" and "play". It remains to be seen how much Gronk (ankle) will play in this game but if he's active, Gronk owners are likely compelled to roll the dice unless you're lucky enough to have a competent backup (Vance McDonald?).

Injury Gronk injury not considered serious
Pats TE is questionable (ankle) for Thursday night game
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Oct 2, 10:45 am

New England Patriots
New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski’s ankle injury is not considered serious, according to multiple reports. He is day-to-day, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. Gronkowski is expected to be questionable for the Patriots’ Week 5 game against the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. (Patriots News)

FFToday's Take: It may not be serious, but Gronk owners cannot be pleased with his production this season given his ADP. for now, you'll need a backup plan at TE in case Gronk can't go.

Injury Gronkowski expected to be listed as Questionable
Ankle injury
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Oct 1, 12:45 pm

New England Patriots
New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski's ankle injury, which prevented him from finishing Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins, is not considered serious, a source tells ESPN's Adam Schefter. Gronkowski is expected to be listed as questionable for Thursday night's game against the Indianapolis Colts, the source said. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Gronk left in the third quarter of Week 4 with an ankle injury. After a 100-yard game in Week 1, Gronk cooled off failing to catch more than 4 balls in Weeks 2-4. The Pats may choose to rest their start tight end in Week 5 given the short week.
