2014 Outlook
Depth Chart
The Jaguars needed to become younger on offense and increase optimism amongst an offensive unit that ranked second to last in total rushing yards during the 2013 regular season. Thus, the Jags parted ways with longtime face of the franchise Maurice Jones-Drew after injuries slowed his effectiveness in recent years. To replace one of the most popular players on the team, they turned to a guy trying to shake the shadow of an NFL great. In Toby Gerhart, Jacksonville gets a young, motivated running back that has watched and learned from the best pure running back in today's game for the past four seasons. When given the opportunity, he has shown that he can be a productive runner between the tackles as well as in passing situations. Now he gets an opportunity to handle a full workload for a team that needs to lean on the run if it expects to stay competitive within the division. Considering that only 11 running backs toted the rock at least 250 times in 2013 after 14 surpassed that mark in 2012, Gerhart immediately becomes a rare commodity. Gerhart stands to see his draft day price increase each week leading up to the season opener so be careful not to overvalue him if the hype runs out of control. The offense has nowhere to go but up in 2014 and Gerhart will be leading the charge for fantasy owners.

Comment: Gerhart's opportunity factor is sky high. He should be a three-down workhorse.

Denard Robinson to draw Week 8 start
Gerhart to draw some reps
By: Doug Orth | Thu Oct 23, 3:50 pm

Jacksonville Jaguars
No surprise, Jaguars HC Gus Bradley says Denard Robinson will start at RB against the Dolphins. Toby Gerhart (foot) will get some reps though. (Mark Long on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: This hardly qualifies as a shock, although it needs to be noted that Robinson draws a pretty difficult matchup. Despite last week's 100-yard game, Robinson needs a strong showing this week to get a firm hold on the job because Gerhart was the hand-picked feature back of this regime and could be given another shot if Robinson falters now that he is nearing full health.

Injury Toby Gerhart still in mix for bulk of carries?
With Storm Johnson on carry count, Gerhart could reclaim job
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Oct 14, 12:15 pm

Jacksonville Jaguars
Running back Storm Johnson carried 10 times in Sunday’s loss, his first career start and second game. That was exactly the amount of work Bradley planned for the rookie to handle. “Our whole intent was to get Storm 10 carries and he got 10 carries,” Bradley said. Johnson gained 21 yards and scored on a 1-yard touchdown run. His longest carry went for 7 yards. The seventh-round pick from Central Florida also caught a screen pass for a 4-yard loss. “His toughness and things like that were there,” Bradley said. “But, there’s a couple of areas and just his overall reads and where we actually want the play to hit. He hit it more front side where he could bring it backside, so things like that.” On the season, Johnson has carried 14 times for 48 yards. Running back Toby Gerhart (foot) will also be evaluated Wednesday after missing Sunday’s game. (Florida Times-Union)

FFToday's Take: It appears that Gerhart isn't quite dead in the water, but you'll have to suspend disbelief a bit to imagine him meeting even 80 percent of the preseason expectations heaped on him. It's a fluid situation, but the entire backfield is a mess.

Injury Toby Gerhart ruled out with foot injury
Storm Johnson to get first crack at RB2 numbers
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 10, 1:45 pm

Jacksonville Jaguars
Jaguars running back Toby Gerhart missed a second consecutive practice today and has been ruled out of Sunday’s game at Tennessee. Gerhart injured his foot in Week 1 at Philadelphia and aggravated it last week against Pittsburgh. But he practiced Wednesday and suffered a setback. (Florida Times Union)

FFToday's Take: Denard Robinson, Jordan Todman and Storm Johnson will all get a chance to carry the ball this week for the Jaguars. Johnson will get the first crack at being the "hot hand" and therefore holds the most fantasy value of the trio. He'll be a RB3 or Flex consideration at best.

Asiata set to make third career start
Will replace Adrian Peterson in starting lineup
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Sep 13, 7:00 am

Minnesota Vikings
Matt Asiata is expected to start in Peterson’s absence Sunday, with rookie Jerick McKinnon serving as the backup. Asiata, in his third season, will make his third career start. The previous two starts occurred in the final two games last season, when Peterson and Toby Gerhart were inactive with injuries. (Minneapolis Star Tribune)

FFToday's Take: Even with Peterson out of the lineup, the Vikings should focus on the running game against the Patriots who gave up 193 yards to Knowshon Moreno and Lamar Miller last week. Asiata should touch the ball 20 times with the rookie McKinnon playing a complementary role.
