2016 Outlook
Depth Chart
After a monster 2014 that saw him catch 99 passes for more than 1,300 yards, Tate’s numbers took a tumble last year thanks to the inept Lions offense early in the season, and the return to health of Calvin Johnson. Two seasons ago Tate put on a clinic in the games he filled in as the No.1 when Johnson missed time. He gave us a glimpse of the elite after the catch ability he possesses, and should thrive in what I think will be a passing game based on quick timing throws. Tate flourishes in space, and gives quarterback Matt Stafford a reliable target, even if he seemed to be a little too close to the line of scrimmage at times last year. In fact, despite catching 90 passes, Tate only racked up 813 yards, good for only 9.0 yards per catch, over 4 yards-per-catch less than his first year with the Lions. Tate’s 90 receptions were good for 9th in the NFL, but his yardage total was only good for 33rd. Because of the struggles of the O-line, Tate was sent out on an overabundance of bubble screens and short slants, and he just couldn’t break big gains. With a reworked scheme, and fresh bodies up front, Tate should be free to work father downfield, and a serious uptick in yardage is in order. If he can find the end zone a little more frequently, Tate should return solid WR2 value for much of the season.

News From The Past 90 Days
Boldin expected to sign deal with Lions
One-year deal expected to be finalized today
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Jul 26, 2:05 pm

Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions are planning to sign veteran wide receiver Anquan Boldin to a one-year deal, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Boldin and the Lions, who need depth at receiver in the wake of Calvin Johnson's retirement, were finalizing the deal Tuesday, sources told Schefter. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Boldin will be thrown into the mix with Golden Tate, Marvin Jones, Eric Ebron, T.J. Jones and receiving specialist Theo Riddick. Boldin has experience with Jim Caldwell from their days in Baltimore. He's likely more of a depth piece than a major contributor but he's still very capable of having a fantasy impact at age 35. He's shaping up to be a mid-to-late round draft pick with WR4/5 value.

Lions HC Caldwell talks up WR T.J. Jones
Third-year receiver getting pre-camp hype
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Jun 24, 1:00 pm

Detroit Lions
“TJ really has got to take another step forward,” head coach Jim Caldwell said. “He’s a guy that does a lot of things well. “He can return for you. He’s got return ability. But then also, he’s got a little scat back ability. He can catch screens for you. He can take off and go when he gets a seam. We really expect him to come forward and be a little bit more of a prominent threat.” (DetroitLions.com)

FFToday's Take: T.J. Jones is currently sitting fourth on the wide receiver depth chart behind Golden Tate, Marvin Jones and Jeremy Kerley. Even with the Lions needing to replace production from Calvin Johnson, Jones in all likelihood would need an injury to a receiver higher on the depth chart in order to become fantasy relevant. He's a late-round dart throw / free agent type in redraft leagues.
