2014 Outlook
Depth Chart
As the newest addition to the Denver offense, Emmanuel Sanders steps into a situation that could not possibly be better for the fifth-year receiver coming off of his best season yet. Sanders' 67 receptions for 740 yards and six touchdowns with the Steelers in 2013 were all career bests as he played opposite Antonio Brown for the majority of the season. On a new roster, Sanders will have to learn a highly complicated offense that requires tremendous focus and execution if he wants to see any looks from Peyton Manning. The Broncos run more three-wide sets than just about any team in the league, which means Sanders will see plenty of playing time. That does not necessarily mean that he is going to simply slide in and replace Eric Decker's 87 receptions for 1,288 yards and 11 touchdowns. While Sanders possesses big play ability, his 5'11”, 180-pound frame is not a comparison for the 6'3”, 215 pound Decker. Sanders will be used differently in the Denver offense than Decker was and that should both excite and worry potential fantasy owners. Don't expect to see anywhere near as many targets go Sanders' way as did Decker's, but look for those opportunities to be potential huge plays. It would not be surprising to see Sanders improve on his yardage and touchdown totals from 2013 while actually seeing a small dip in total receptions. The hype train on Sanders has been strong this offseason with him being drafted as a WR3 in most leagues. While the hype may be warranted, having Sanders as a WR4 would be much more palatable given the strong possibility of some serious inconsistency from him this season, especially early in the year while he's still gaining Manning's trust.

Injury Emmanuel Sanders returns to practice Friday
Still needs clearance from independent doctor
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Nov 21, 1:15 pm

Denver Broncos
Emmanuel Sanders was cleared to practice through the league’s concussion protocol and took part in the team’s final practice of the week after missing work on Wednesday and Thursday. (ProFootballTalk)

FFToday's Take: Sanders will still need to get clearance from an independent doctor but that is expected to happen. For now, Sanders can be penciled into lineups.

Injury Sanders, Thomas sit Thursday at Broncos practice
Broncos without two key receivers
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Nov 20, 1:30 pm

Denver Broncos
Emmanuel Sanders and Julius Thomas were on the sideline at practice Thursday, just as they were on Wednesday, due to injuries suffered against the Rams last weekend. (ProFootball Talk)

FFToday's Take: Both players remain very questionable to play. While there's still a chance both could practice Friday and play on Sunday, owners should have backup plans in place. Jacob Tamme, Wes Welker and Andre Caldwell would see increased value if both sit.

Injury Sanders, Thomas held out of Broncos' practice
Two receiving stars watching from the sidelines Wedensday
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Nov 19, 2:40 pm

Denver Broncos
Emmanuel Sanders and Julius Thomas attended Wednesday's practice. But they did not practice. Sanders suffered a concussion Sunday when absorbing a violent hit by Rams safety Rodney McLeod. Thomas suffered a sprained left ankle Sunday. (Denver Post)

FFToday's Take: Sanders will need to get through the NFL's concussion protocol before being allowed to play. Thomas is not on crutches or in a walking boot, both of which are good signs for his availability. More updates to come on both players later this week.

Injury Broncos lose Sanders, J. Thomas, Ball to injury
Denver RB re-aggravates groin injury
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Nov 16, 8:00 pm

Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos' trip to this city has been a painful one. Tight end Julius Thomas, running back Montee Ball (groin) and wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders (concussion) all suffered injuries in a 22-7 loss to the Rams. Thomas played just two series for the Broncos before leaving the game with an ankle injury and did not return. He had X-rays on his ankle at the stadium and was diagnosed with a sprain. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: It was a rough afternoon for the Broncos on the injury front and the scoreboard. Sanders took a brutal hit early in the third quarter and left the game with a concussion. Ball's groin injury is the most critical as he already missed five weeks with the same injury. The re-aggravation may cost him multiple weeks or perhaps the season. C.J. Anderson should be the lead back moving forward.

Wes Welker suspended four games
Use of amphetamines
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Sep 2, 7:07 pm

Denver Broncos
Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker has been suspended four games for use of amphetamines, sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Welker was excused from practice Aug. 20-21 to attend his appeal hearing, sources told ESPN Senior NFL Analyst Chris Mortensen. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Welker will have plenty of time to get through the leagues' concussion protocol. The Broncos have a bye in Week 4 so the earliest Welker could return to the field would be Week 6. Emmanuel Sanders becomes legit WR2 option and keep in mind, the Broncos used tight end Jacob Tamme in the slot during Welker's absence last season.

Injury Welker cleared for individual drills
Has yet to be cleared for full-contact practices
By: Doug Orth | Mon Sep 1, 3:45 pm

Denver Broncos
On Monday, WR Wes Welker (concussion) returned to practice. He will participate in individual drills but has yet to be cleared to play in the team's season-opener Sunday night against the Colts, reports USAToday.com's Lindsay Jones. If all goes well, Welker will return to full-contact practices before he will be allowed to suit up against the Colts. The Broncos remain cautiously optimistic about those prospects. If Welker can't go, expect Emmanuel Sanders, signed this offseason, to step into his role. (CBS Sports)

FFToday's Take: Nine days ago, Welker suffered his third concussion in 10 months. From a fantasy perspective, the latest one turned Welker from a fairly safe WR2 in most formats into an incredibly high-risk WR3 whose career might be close to over. If he manages to play and avoid any more head trauma, he is a good bet for at least 80 catches. But that is a big if and one owners will have to weigh when drafting or trading for him.
