|Seahawks 3-0 in recent meetings with Panthers|
All close games, all played in Carolina
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Jan 5, 8:30 am
|The Panthers (8-8-1) will seek to avenge three agonizing losses to Seattle (12-4) by a total of 13 points over the past three years, including a 13-9 defeat in Week 8 this season. All of those games were in Charlotte. This will be the Panthers’ first trip since 2010 to Seattle. (Charlotte Observer)|
FFToday's Take: The Seahawks won by scores of 12-7 (2013) and 16-12 (2012) along with their 13-9 win this season. The Seahawks are currently a 10.5 point favorite. Carolina will have a tough task going on the road and attempting to keep this game from getting out of hand despite their recent close calls with Seattle. Cam Newton and the rest of the Panthers offense will be risky playoff league and DFS plays this week.

Panthers QB takes first team reps Thursday

|Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera said Thursday that quarterback Cam Newton is on target to start Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns. "We did more with him today than we did with him yesterday," Rivera said of Thursday's practice. "We'll increase that tomorrow, then double-check him on Saturday morning." (ESPN)|
FFToday's Take: Unless there is a setback it appears Newton will start Sunday's game against the Browns. His back injury will make him a risky start for fantasy owners. Newton has also been bothered by ankle and foot issues this season.

Status for Sunday remains unclear

|CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Cam Newton returned to practice Wednesday eight days after a horrific-looking automobile accident left him with two fractures in his lower back.
Whether or not he starts Sunday against the Cleveland Browns remains unclear.
FFToday's Take: With the NFC South division title and a spot in the playoffs up for grabs, the Panthers will want Newton in the lineup if he is able to play. Ron Rivera indicated that the team will now wait to see how Newton feels after a day of practice. Expect Carolina to make a decision on who will start the game under center by Friday.
|DeAngelo Williams "probably" out Week 15|
By: Doug Orth | Thu Dec 11, 6:30 pm
|"Probably" another week away for DeAngelo Williams (hand). (Jonathan Jones on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Williams has been little more than a huge annoyance for Jonathan Stewart owners in recent years. With Williams "probably" out, Stewart is a decent start based on a good matchup (Tampa Bay) and the fact that Cam Newton will not be around to steal goal-line work. On the downside, Newton's absence greatly increases the chances the Bucs will load up against the run and dare Derek Anderson to beat them. As such, his Week 15 upside is probably as a low-end RB2.

Two fractures in lower back
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Dec 10, 12:30 pm
|Cam Newton was held at Carolinas Medical Center overnight for testing and observation.
He was discharged from the hospital Wednesday morning. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said Newton was traveling at the posted speed of 35 mph when the other driver pulled out in front of him. No citations were issued. It remains unclear when Newton will return to action. (ESPN)|
FFToday's Take: Tony Romo suffered a similar injury to Newton's earlier this year and missed one game. The Panthers have named Derek Anderson as the starter against Tampa Bay. Anderson threw for 230 yards and 2 TDs against the Bucs in Week 1.

Receiving medical attention at the scene

|According to the Charlotte Observer, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was involved in a car wreck near downtown today. Details are few at the moment, but the crash included Newton’s car flipped over on a bridge and another involved, near the intersection of Church Street and I-277, close to Bank of America Stadium.
FFToday's Take: It appears that Newton's truck flipped over at least once. We'll have more when the details are known.
