2016 Outlook
Depth Chart
While, I noted above that Vereen was mostly a disappointment during his first season in New York, that statement depends on one’s expectations heading into the season. Rashad Jennings stayed healthy and Vereen was unable to take significant carries away from him, but the former Patriot was, as expected, a big part of the passing game catching 59 balls for 495 yards and 4 touchdowns. He only received 61 carries, gaining 260 yards, and was held scoreless on the ground however. For those in PPR leagues, Vereen maintained some value but many predicted that he was talented enough to be the Giants’ featured back, and that of course never materialized. In McAdoo’s west coast style high-octane offense, Vereen should still play a major role as the passing game back and he could potentially see an expanded role with a Jennings injury and if Perkins shows he is not quite ready to step in. At 5’10” and 205 pounds Vereen is essentially the same size as Perkins, so it’s not a given that the rookie would vault over him for snaps should Jennings miss time.

Injury Giants forced to look to Paul Perkins
Rookie RB "ready to step up"
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Sep 27, 11:00 am

New York Giants
Orleans Darkwa ran well against the Redskins, with 10 carries for 53 yards. Diminutive Bobby Rainey can duplicate some of Vereen’s skills as a pass-catcher — though he has had fumbling issues in his career — and rookie Paul Perkins, a fifth-round pick from UCLA, will have to be brought along. HC Ben McAdoo said, "Perkins is ready to step up." Asked how he will replace Vereen, McAdoo said "by committee." (New York Post)

FFToday's Take: With Shane Vereen down for most if not all of the season and Rashad Jennings dealing with a thumb injury, the Giants will likely activate Perkins in Week 4 and get him some touches. He's a RB4 with additional dynasty value.

Injury Shane Vereen out for the year, triceps injury
Giants lose leading rusher

Giants running back Shane Vereen is out for the season with a triceps injury, the team announced today. (ProFootballTalk)

FFToday's Take: Rashad Jennings missed Week 3 with a thumb injury and now Vereen is lost for the season. Orleans Darkwa isn't the receiving threat Vereen is and the Giants expressed concerns of Jennings' ability to catch with a cast on his thumb so it remains to be seen how the backfield duties will be split moving forward. Bobby Rainey and Paul Perkins round out the depth chart.

Injury Rashad Jennings expected to be inactive
Shane Vereen expected to start

Giants RB Rashad Jennings (thumb) will be a surprise spectator today. After early optimism, he’s expected to be out vs. Redskins. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Jennings has been dealing with a thumb injury and was previously reported he would wear a cast. However, with him on the sidelines Shane Vereen slides into the starting role and becomes a nice RB2 against the Redskins. Orleans Darkwa and perhaps rookie Paul Perkins could also see snaps.

Injury Rashad Jennings to play with cast on thumb
Flex consideration
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Sep 24, 10:00 am

New York Giants
All week, Rashad Jennings has been confident his injured left thumb wouldn’t prevent him from facing the Redskins, but the Giants are listing their starting running back as questionable to play Sunday. “He’s continuing to try to work around that,” Sullivan said of Jennings’ injury. “It’s something that’s not natural. He’s used to doing that without the cast. … It’s definitely an adjustment that we have great confidence he’ll be able to make.” (New York Post)

FFToday's Take: Jennings is expected to play but given the fact Shane Vereen split carries with Jennings last week, its difficult to trust Jennings as an RB2. Both backs have Flex appeal in the matchup with Washington.
