2014 Outlook
Depth Chart
DeMarco Murray is coming off his best season as a professional, but still did not manage to play a full season—an issue that has plagued Murray throughout his three years in the NFL. Last year he did manage a career-high 14 games, and gained almost 1,500 total yards, while finding the end zone 10 times. He also caught 53 balls last season, a number that could increase in Scott Linehan's offense. Linehan has claimed that he will lean on the running game in Dallas, but his past history speaks otherwise. Still, with recent improvements to the offensive line and a talent like Murray, the Cowboys should have a very effective running game and Murray could be poised to set career highs across the board. As always, health could be an issue for a running back who doesn't always find himself able to avoid contact due to an upright and violent running style. However, at 6'0” and 220 pounds, and with impressive straight-line speed, Murray can dish out the punishment as well. An owner could do worse than picking Murray somewhere near the Round 1/Round 2 turn in drafts later this summer.

Comment: Murray is a perfect fit for the new Dallas offense but he's yet to play a full season.

DeMarco Murray has "bellcow" traits
Cowboys HC Jason Garrett says RB is "leader of committee"
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Wed Aug 13, 10:25 am

Dallas Cowboys
Coach Jason Garrett said he sees DeMarco Murray as "the leader of a committee" in the Cowboys' backfield, but that he has "bellcow traits." (@Jason LaCanfora on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Despite what Garrett is saying, you should view Murray as an RB1 and possible first-round selection in fantasy drafts. There are very few RBs in the league who aren't part of some type of committee.

Lance Dunbar's role in the Cowboys offense
Would likely split time if Murray goes down with an injury
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Jul 13, 11:00 am

Dallas Cowboys
He'll have the third-down back role. He has the ability to be a change of pace runner for DeMarco Murray. But does this mean he will see a huge role? Not necessarily because I think Murray will still be on the field for the bulk of the game. And if something happens to Murray, I think they would keep Lance Dunbar in the third down role, expand it a little, but use Joseph Randle or Ryan Williams, whoever wins the third back job, as the every-down back. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: The opinions of ESPN's Todd Archer who covers the cowboys are worth noting. Dunbar appears to be healed from his knee injury that occurred last November but it appears Murray will be getting the bulk of attention in this offense as long as he remains healthy. Dunbar will likely have more value in PPR leagues.
