|The Cowboys currently list Tanner and Dunbar third and fourth on their depth chart at running back, but they were truly awful in their limited opportunities last season and will likely only be on the Cowboys opening-day roster if nothing of interest comes across the waiver wire. And if the waiver wire is empty, don't be surprised if Dallas swings a trade to get a better option. There is a good chance that the Cowboys’ third-string running back isn't currently on their roster.
| DeMarco Murray out with MCL sprain -- Mon Oct 14 3:05 pm --|
MRI results pending; Cowboys expect multi-week absence
|DeMarco Murray has an MCL sprain in his knee and the Cowboys are bracing for his absence. Murray went out early in Sunday night’s game against the Redskins after rushing seven times for 29 yards, including a 4-yard touchdown run. Rookie Joseph Randle had 11 carries for 17 yards, including a 1-yard touchdown run, and caught two passes for 15 yards in relief of Murray.
The Cowboys might also get second-year running back Lance Dunbar back soon from a foot injury. (Fort Worth Star-Telegram)|
FF Today's Take: It is the third consecutive season Murray has been hurt, with all of them being lower-body injuries. Although Randle did find the end zone, his 1.5 YPC shouldn't be enough to overtake Dunbar on the depth chart. Assuming he can make it back for Week 7, expect Dunbar to be the back to own for fantasy purposes, although Randle and Phillip Tanner will likely see plenty of snaps.
