2015 Outlook
Depth Chart
Griffin enters training camp as the starting quarterback of the Redskins after an injury shortened 2014 season in which he posted career lows across the board, including passing yards, yards per passing attempts, and rushing yards. 2015 is without a doubt a make-or-break year for the former first round pick out of Baylor, as the Washington front office has yet to extend Griffin to a long-term deal. It could also be head coach Jay Gruden’s last chance to prove he is the long-term solution for the franchise, opening the door for a short leash on Griffin should he begin the season slowly. The Redskins did address a glaring need in the offseason with the selection of tackle Brandon Scherff to help sure-up the offensive line. With a rebuilt offensive line and formidable players at the skill positions, all the pieces are in place for Griffin to prove he is a starting NFL quarterback. The question is can he stay healthy and will he be able to use his legs to produce the type of fantasy numbers he did as a rookie? If so, he could be a nice value in later rounds this season.

Injury Robert Griffin suffers concussion
No timetable for return
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Aug 20, 9:00 pm

Washington Redskins
Gruden confirmed after the game Robert Griffin III suffered a concussion. The severity of Griffin’s injuries wasn’t immediately clear when the buzzer sounded on the 21-17 victory over the Detroit Lions. But given Griffin’s history, which includes three major leg injuries, any setback that prevents him from playing a 16-game regular season or developing a fluency in Gruden’s offense represents major cause for alarm for the Redskins. (Washington Post)

FFToday's Take: Griffin got knocked around by the Lions defense during his four drives in the first half and was eventually knocked out of the game. No timetable is set for Griffin's return. Backup quarterbacks Colt McCoy and Kirk Cousins looked good in relief and will likely cause some QB controversy talk to begin as the team heads towards preseason game number three.

Shanahan still says Kirk Cousins is an NFL starter
Redskins’ QB turns in dominant preseason performance
By: John Canario | Fri Aug 14, 3:30 pm

Washington Redskins
Former Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan — the man who drafted Kirk Cousins, and consistently praised Kirk Cousins, and eventually started Kirk Cousins after benching Robert Griffin III — remains solidly convinced that Kirk Cousins is a starting NFL quarterback. “I think Kirk Cousins has got a big-time future,” Shanahan said Friday morning on 106.7 The Fan. “He’s a starter in the National Football League, and that’ll be proven out in time.” (Washington Post)

FFToday's Take: After coming in for Robert Griffin III in the second quarter of last night’s preseason affair, Cousins turned in an impressive showing completing 12 of 14 passes for 154 yards, and added a rushing touchdown for good measure. There’s no doubting his ability to pile up points in bunches, but he’s still only a backup and a polarizing one at that. He shouldn’t be on your fantasy radar unless you own RG3 and want some insurance.

Gruden still thinks RG3 has what it takes
Once prolific QB hoping to rediscover offensive production
By: John Canario | Fri Jul 31, 5:45 pm

Washington Redskins
As Jay Gruden sees it, for four years, Robert Griffin III has been a prisoner of the expectations around him. The idea now is to set him free. Griffin wasn't very good last year. That much is impossible to argue. But neither were the Washington Redskins. "We can't put all the pressure on the quarterback," Gruden said. "There's only a few quarterbacks in the league that can handle that, and those guys are gonna be first-ballot Hall of Famers. The rest of them, they need help. They need help with the running game. [They need] some quick-element throws where the receivers do the work for them, screens, good play-action shot plays, good strong defense. If we win 17-13, who gives a (expletive)? We just gotta win." (NFL.com)

FFToday's Take: RG3's fantasy totals have taken a hit with each passing season. His name still carries some weight but owners who've had him in either of the last two years might be tired of being burned by the former standout rookie.
