|Considered a steal as a second-round pick and one of the most Pro-ready receivers in the 2012 draft, Randle was expected to carve out a role as the Giants’ top backup receiver as a rookie. While he flashed some potential, the 6'2”, 208-pound LSU product failed to take on a consistent role despite Hakeem Nicks' injury issues. Look for that to change this season, although the Giants have hedged their bets by re-signing Ramses Barden and acquiring journeyman Louis Murphy. Still, Randle should be considered the front-runner to earn the top backup role given his bigger upside and the fact that Nicks is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Randle rates as a WR5 with upside because of his potential and Nicks' injury history.
Comment: Randle has upside as a potential fill-in for the oft-injured Nicks.
| Rueben Randle misses practice Thu. -- Thu Dec 26 12:30 pm --|
Reason for absence coming later today
|The Giants have already seen enough trouble plague their wide receiving corps this season. That unfortunate trend continued today when wide receiver Rueben Randle was a surprise absence from workouts. The team said an announcement, possibly injury-related, is coming soon. (NJ.com)|
FF Today's Take: No word yet as to why Randle missed practice. The Giants receiving corps has a plus matchup against the Redskins defense in Week 17.
| Cruz has knee surgery -- Thu Dec 19 3:30 pm --|
Will miss the remainder of the season
|New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Thursday for an injury that likely ends his season. Cruz had the debridement performed by Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, Fla. The procedure involved the removal of cartilage and is not considered a major operation. (ESPN)|
FF Today's Take: You can scratch Cruz off your fantasy team for the remainder of the season. Rueben Randle and Hakeem Nicks will get the start with Jerrel Jernigan being used in the slot.
| Cruz unlikely to play Week 16 -- Wed Dec 18 11:45 am --|
Concussion, sprained knee
|Cruz (concussion/knee) was one of 10 Giants that appeared on the team's injury report today. None of them are practicing.
"He's going through the concussion protocol but he also has the knee that'll probably prevent him from doing anything," Tom Coughlin said. (NJ.com)|
FF Today's Take: It's almost a guarantee that Cruz will not play this week meaning Hakeem Nicks, Rueben Randle and Jerrel Jernigan will be Eli's targets on Sunday. The Giants are playing out the string, meaning all three receivers are risky fantasy plays.
| Cruz suffers concussion, sprained knee -- Mon Dec 16 8:00 am --|
Status for Week 16 uncertain
|Victor Cruz, who has 73 catches for 998 yards (both team highs) and four touchdowns, was diagnosed with a concussion and knee sprain. His status for next week’s game at Detroit is uncertain. Considering the league’s strict protocol with regards to concussions, it seems unlikely Cruz will play against the Lions. (NJ.com)|
FF Today's Take: Jerrel Jernigan saw his first significant action with Cruz out, and caught seven passes for 67 yards. If Cruz is out, Rueben Randle would likely slide into the starting lineup.
