|Marvin Jones was a surprise hit in 2013, racking up a silly 10 touchdowns on only 51 catches. Fighting to earn playing time opposite stud A.J. Green, Jones made a gigantic fantasy splash in a Week 8 game against the Jets when he went off for 122 yards and four touchdowns. While he had a few decent games very late in the year when he finally seemed to be a more consistent member of the starting lineup, Jones wasn't nearly the valuable fantasy asset his final rankings make him seem. He's a young, talented receiver who will benefit from single coverage. You are much better off looking elsewhere when filling out your starting line-up, however. On an offense that figures to flip its run-pass ratio – Cincinnati had a 45 percent to 55 percent ratio in 2013 – and has a host of options fighting for targets behind superstar wide receiver Green, there doesn't seem to be enough volume coming Jones' way to make him anything but an end of the roster WR4/5. Expect a slight uptick in catches and yards now that he should be entrenched as a starter, but count on the touchdown total to tumble back into the lower single digits.
Comment: Jones (broken foot) will miss at least four weeks to start the season.
| A.J. Green has "a little bit more than turf toe"|
WR almost certainly out Week 6, if not beyond
By: Doug Orth | Thu Oct 9, 5:25 pm
|A.J. Green’s Pro Bowl toe is now in the hands of a blue-ribbon panel of doctors and while Bengaldom holds its collective breath.
Wednesday’s MRI is going to send him to another consultation with one of the nation’s leading foot specialists when he meets with Cincinnati doctor James Amis on Thursday. It’s believed the MRI again showed no tears or breaks, but he’s obviously still having discomfort in the ligament under the sesamoid bone in the ball of the foot underneath the big toe. FFToday's Take: HC Marvin Lewis told former NFL player Ross Tucker on his podcast that Green has "a little bit more than (turf toe)". Turf toe is a difficult enough condition to play through, so an injury more serious than that could be damning for Green's 2014 prospects. In the short term, Mohamed Sanu should be the clear top option among Bengals' receivers, especially since Marvin Jones is not close to returning. Dane Sanzenbacher is also worth considering in PPR leagues as well.
| A.J. Green leaves practice on cart|
Aggravated his toe injury
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Oct 8, 2:05 pm
|A.J. Green appeared to aggravate the toe injury that kept him out against the Falcons.
During the stretching period of practice open to the media, Green appeared injured and visibly upset. He threw off his helmet and shoe in disgust and was eventually taken off on a cart. He was able to walk, but with a limp.
FFToday's Take: We'll have to wait for further information but it appears Green aggravated his toe injury. Marvin Jones (ankle) also missed practice today and doesn't appear close to playing. Mohamed Sanu and Dane Sanzenbacher would likely be the starting receivers if both Green and Jones are out.
