2018 Outlook
Depth Chart
A gruesome broken right fibula Week 12 prematurely ended Thompson's 2017 season, cutting short an impressive career year for the former Florida State Seminole. Despite missing six games, Thompson set career marks for receiving yards and touchdowns (510, 4), while averaging an impressive 11.6 fantasy points per game based on FF Today Default Scoring. Not only was Thompson skilled as the third/passing down back for Jay Gruden, he also earned more first and second down touches in the Redskin offense due to the injuries and ineffective running by Rob Kelley and Samaje Perine.

With the Redskins using their second-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft to select Derrius Guice, the path for touches from Thompson will likely be limited to passing and third down work. Guice is a talented runner, but he has a way to go with regards to pass protection and catching the ball out of the backfield.

Despite having a set role with limited upside rushing the ball and questions surrounding his ability to return to form after the broken leg, Thompson will have flex value in PPR leagues with the upside of more work should Guice suffer rookie struggles.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury Crowder out, Paul Richardson doubtful
Redskins thin at receiver
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 19, 1:30 pm

Washington Redskins
Redskins WR Jamison Crowder out Sunday vs. Dallas and could miss a little time, coach Jay Gruden said. Receiver Paul Richardson is doubtful with his shoulder/knee. Running backs Adrian Peterson and Chris Thompson both are questionable as is Quinton Dunbar. (John Keim on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The Redskins are thin at receiver with Josh Doctson, Maurice Harris, Michael Floyd and Brian Quick being the options at the position for Alex Smith. Harris is likely to see the most snaps in the slot with Floyd playing the Z position for Richardson. None of these players are recommended fantasy options.

Injury Redskins down Chris Thompson and Crowder
Redskins thin at the skill positions
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Oct 14, 1:10 am

Washington Redskins
Redskins’ WR Jamison Crowder, listed as questionable for Sunday with an ankle injury, is not expected to play vs. the Panthers. So the Redskins expect to be down Chris Thompson and Crowder. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The Redskins are banged up at the offensive skill positions with Adrian Peterson (ribs), Paul Richardson and Josh Doctson all questionable. Kapri Bibbs could see some work in the running game and extra targets could be coming Jordan Reed's way in the passing game.

Injury Washington RBs injured on bad throws
Alex Smith's "hospitals balls" claim Chris Thompson, Adrian Peter
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Oct 9, 8:09 am

Washington Redskins
Two Washington running backs left Monday night’s 43-19 loss to the New Orleans Saints -- Chris Thompson and Adrian Peterson. Both injuries were the result of poor throws buy Alex Smith, who left the pass catchers vulnerable to big hits from defenders. Peterson suffered a dislocated shoulder in the first half and did not have a second half carry, finishing with six yards on four rushing attempts. He is scheduled to have an MRI on Tuesday. Chris Thompson was also shaken up, suffering a rib injury on an attempted two-point conversion in the fourth quarter. He finished with a team-high six receptions for 45 yards and added eight rushes for 17 yards. (Washington Post)

FFToday's Take: Kapri Bibbs filled in down the stretch and would assume a bugger workload were either back miss Week 6. Samaje Perine could also be activated.

Injury Chris Thompson, Jordan Reed doing well
Oft-injured Washington players on track for opener
By: Doug Orth | Mon Aug 27, 5:10 pm

Washington Redskins
HC Jay Gruden said Chris Thompson has looked “really good”. Gruden said Jordan Reed is on pace to be ready for the opener. (ESPN - John Keim)

FFToday's Take: Thompson scared a few fantasy owners when he recently said his knee may not be "100 percent" until November. He is also due for some touchdown regression after scoring once every 17.2 touches last season, but his role as a dynamic pass-catching back in Washington is secure. Reed is another story, as it seems he is the very definition of "injury-prone." His draft cost is the most reasonable it has been in years, but owners needs to make sure to have a solid backup.

Injury Perine OK after ankle injury
Sprained ankle
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Aug 17, 7:00 am

Washington Redskins
Samaje Perine was done after one play as he hurt his ankle on a 30-yard run that kicked off the team’s second drive of the evening. Byron Marshall would leave with a lower leg injury later in the proceedings as well. Perine was in a walking boot after the game, but coach Jay Gruden downplayed the severity of the injury. “Looks like it was OK. Twisted ankle for Samaje,” Gruden said in his postgame press conference. (Pro Football Talk)

FFToday's Take: The Redskins will likely take it easy with Perine the rest of the pre-season given he's the frontrunner to start Week 1. Rob Kelley, Chris Thompson, Kapri Bibbs and Martez Carter are next up on the depth chart.

Injury Torn ACL for Derrius Guice
Redskins lose rookie RB for the year
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Aug 10, 2:35 pm

Washington Redskins

FFToday's Take: Ouch. The Redskins rookie running back was inline for a starting role this season. The hope was that Guice suffered only a sprained MCL in last night's pre-season game but he will now miss the entire 2018 season. This is the same knee Guice injured (hyperextension) at LSU. Samaje Perine and Rob Kelley are next up on the depth chart with Chris Thompson filling his usual pass-catching role.
