| Jamaal Charles not done yet this season?|
Aging RB hoping to return for playoffs
By: Doug Orth | Thu Dec 8, 8:20 pm
|As his team plays tonight, #Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (2 knee surgeries) is doing well, working hard, hopeful to be back for the playoffs. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Owners should not be holding their breath on this news, if only because Charles would probably serve a change-of-pace back for Spencer Ware if he does return. The good news is that he is already feeling good and should be fine to play next season even if he cannot make it back in 2016.

All but ruled out for the 2016 season
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Nov 17, 12:45 pm
|Jamaal Charles had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Monday. Previously had his right knee scoped. Had been experiencing problems in both knees. (ESPN)|
FFToday's Take: The news keeps getting worse for Charles who previously had his right knee scoped. This latest procedure will kill There any hope of Charles returning for potential playoff games. Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West are locked in as the Chiefs top running backs.

Chiefs RB passes concussion protocol
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Nov 9, 12:30 pm
|Spencer Ware is making progress in his recovery from a concussion. He’s set to practice on Wednesday, which should put him on track to return to the lineup in Carolina this weekend.
Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin will not be joining Ware on the practice field. Maclin aggravated a groin injury last Sunday and left the game after playing two snaps. (ProFootballTalk)|
FFToday's Take: Ware is expected to play this week against Carolina and should see the bulk of the work with Charcandrick West filling the backup role. Maclin is a longshot to play, leaving Alex Smith with Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill and Chris Conley as his top three weapons.
| Spencer Ware still in concussion protocol|
Sat out Week 9
By: Doug Orth | Mon Nov 7, 5:30 pm
|As far as HC Andy Reid knows right now, Spencer Ware hasn't passed concussion protocol. (BJ Kissel on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: While this news doesn't mean the same thing on a Monday as it would on a Friday, it is still a bad sign for his Week 10 status most non-regularly concussed players seem to be able to pass protocol in about a week, although each case is obviously different. Charcandrick West certainly didn't make any move on making the backfield a two-man show with a disappointing effort versus the Jaguars, so Ware will almost certainly return to fantasy RB1 status once he is cleared.
| Spencer Ware ruled out, West to start|
Bishop Sankey expected to play
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Nov 4, 2:30 pm
|Running back Spencer Ware, the Kansas City Chiefs' leading rusher, has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars because of a concussion. The Chiefs will go with Charcandrick West as their main featured back against the Jaguars. (ESPN)|
FFToday's Take: West is locked in as the Chiefs main ball carrier this week. Newly signed Bishop Sankey will be the No.2 back as practice squad player Darrin Reaves suffered a groin injury this week. West has RB1 value against the Jags and should be a wildly popular play in DFS.
| Jamaal Charles headed to IR|
May need another surgery on knee
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Nov 1, 5:30 pm
|The Chiefs on Tuesday placed running back Jamaal Charles on injured reserve, a league source told ESPN's Field Yates.
Charles has had soreness in his surgically repaired right knee.
The move to IR means he will miss at least eight weeks. (ESPN)|
FFToday's Take: Charles missed last week's game after suffering a setback in Week 7. He was scheduled to see Dr. Andrews today. Charles can be dropped in redraft leagues as the Chiefs will move forward with Spencer Ware (concussion) and Charcandrick West. Ware isn't expected to play this week and the team is signed Bishop Sankey from the Packers practice squad.

|Chiefs coach Andy Reid says Jamaal Charles will miss Sunday's game with knee issues. (Terez Paylor on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Charles has experienced swelling in his knee last week and with Andy Reid playing it safe with Charles up to this point, it's not surprising Charles will miss Week 8. Spencer Ware will continue his role as the lead back in the Chiefs offense with Charcandrick West filling a backup role.
| Limited workload for Jamaal Charles|
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Oct 23, 8:35 am
|Chiefs optimistic Jamaal Charles will be able to play today with a limited workload, per sources, but want to test him pregame to make sure. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Charles popped up on the injury report Friday with swelling in his surgically repaired knee. He's off the radar as a fantasy play with limited action expected. Spencer Ware may lose a few carries to Charcandrick West, but remains a solid RB1 against the Saints in Week 7.

Chiefs RB now questionable, Ware more likely for huge workload Week 7
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Fri Oct 21, 2:32 pm
|B.J. Kissel (@ChiefsReporter) on Twitter: "Jamaal Charles and Phillip Gaines are questionable for Sunday's game. Charles had some knee swelling and was limited at Friday's practice." (Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Ugh. Charles owners were already dealing with a limited workload, but if they have Spencer Ware, this could be god news. Ware should now be considered an RB1 with more upside than before this news broke.
|Charles still not ready for heavy workload|
HC impressed with RB in first extensive action
By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 17, 5:40 pm
|While Chiefs HC Andy Reid noted Monday that what it was good to have Jamaal Charles back “in all areas,” Spencer Ware still out-touched Charles 26 to 11 and logged more snaps, 40 to 15, an indication the Chiefs are still cautious with their star as he works his way back from a second torn ACL.
“Is he ready to carry it every down? I don’t think that’s where we're at right this minute. But he got more carries than he did against Pittsburgh, and his attitude — from the get go — has been give me the ball, I want to play. The attitude is awesome,” Reid said of Charles. (Kansas City Star)|
FFToday's Take: It has been made very clear Ware is going to continue having a role, but his time as the lead back in the Chiefs' backfield is likely coming to an end soon. Charles is probably going to take over the lead role sometime in the next couple of weeks, making now a great buy-low opportunity for the 29-year-old back and a good time to see what Ware's trade value is.

Chiefs continue to exercise caution with RB
By: Doug Orth | Thu Oct 13, 7:45 pm
|"We'll sprinkle him in where we feel he's most effective." - OC Brad Childress on using Jamaal Charles. Chiefs want to work him back in. (Pete Sweeney on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Late drafters knew they were taking a risk he would not contribute much for the first four or so weeks when they used a third- or fourth-round pick on Charles, but even the most patient owners have to be up in arms with the idea of him still being "sprinkled" into the offense heading into Week 6. He's probably a low-end flex, while starter Spencer Ware is probably a midrange RB2 at best despite a plus-matchup in Week 6 against Oakland.
| Jamaal Charles full participant in practice|
Workload ready to increase
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Oct 12, 1:30 pm
|The Chiefs plan for Jamaal Charles to be a full practice participant today for the first time this season. They also plan to use him more on Sunday than he did in his season debut against the Steelers. "As long as there are no setbacks, he'll probably do a little bit more," coach Andy Reid said. (ESPN)|
FFToday's Take: Reading between the lines, the original plan for Charles called for him to sit out through the Week 5 bye but he needed to be active in Week 4 due to an injury to Charcandrick West. At worst, expect Charles and Spencer Ware to split touches evenly but don't be surprised if Charles resumes his role as the featured back as long as his stamina isn't in question.

Charles ot make season debut
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 30, 3:00 pm
|Despite being listed as questionable (knee), Chiefs' RB Jamaal Charles will make 2016 season debut Sunday night in Pitt, per source. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: With Charcandrick West (ankle) out, Charles will get his first action of the season on Sunday night against the Steelers. There's no definitive word on Charles role, but its likely he will be limited and be in a backup role to Spencer Ware. Ware's value dips to RB2 level while the uncertainty makes Charles a FLEX dart throw.

HC remains noncommittal on RB making season debut
By: Doug Orth | Mon Sep 19, 5:25 pm
|When asked if he could rule out Jamaal Charles playing this week, however, HC Andy Reid said he could not. “No, I wouldn’t rule it out,” Reid said. “I just don’t have enough information for you to put it out there.” Charles missed the entire preseason and the Chiefs’ first two games, but he has been practicing the last two weeks on the scout team and warmed up on the field before Sunday’s 19-12 loss to the Houston Texans. Reid said Charles told him directly last week that he wasn’t quite ready to play.
“Last week he wasn’t ready, he wasn’t quite there — but he’s getting there,” Reid said. (Kansas City Star)|
FFToday's Take: Reid added that Charles told him "he felt like he made a lot of improvement last week". Spencer Ware is making the decision easier for everyone by amassing going over 100 total yards in each of the team's first two games. Owners should expect a committee of sorts when Charles gets cleared, with the 29-year-old likely to take over the lead role around midseason. Even if/when that happens, expect Ware to be no worse than a strong RB3/flex option.
| Jamaal Charles expected to return Week 3|
Ware and West to handle rushing duties in Week 2
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Sep 18, 8:00 am
|Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles will miss Sunday's game against the Houston Texans but is expected to make his season debut in Week 3, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. (ESPN)|
FFToday's Take: When Charles returns he won't likely resume his workhorse role... at least in his first game back. Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West have proven to be capable replacements and have earned a role in the rotation. Expect to see a mixture of Charles and Ware in Week 3.

Spencer Ware to remain lead back, Charles "least healthy" of RBs
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Sep 13, 3:55 pm
|Ed Werder (@Edwerderespn) on Twitter: "#Chiefs could give Jamaal Charles, recovering from ACL surgery, another week, per source. He's least healthy of 4 RB, esp Spencer Ware" (Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Uh-oh. Charles owners can't like to hear this, as the Chiefs gave no indication the stud RB would be out multiple weeks heading into most August fantasy drafts. Ware remains the best bet to flourish as an RB1, and keep some RB3/flex viability once Charles eventually returns. This is shaping up as a week-to-week monitoring issue.
