2017 Outlook
Depth Chart
The Texans believed they had solved their quarterback issues when they traded for Brock Osweiler and gave him a big pile of money after the 2015 season. Unfortunately, Osweiler wasn't up to the task as the Texans became one of four teams to finish last season averaging less than 200 yards of passing offense despite averaging over 36 passing attempts per game. Houston jettisoned Osweiler and now enter the year with Tom Savage leading the charge. A former fourth round draft choice by the Texans in 2014, Savage has played in a total of five games during his brief career. He hasn't done anything to make fantasy owners believe he will magically transform the offense into a high scoring unit but there are enough weapons around him to allow fantasy managers to use him as a matchup dependent fill in throughout the bye weeks. Houston is hoping Savage will do enough to keep the job but his leash won't be too long with highly touted rookie Deshaun Watson waiting to take over as the quarterback of the future.

Injury DeShaun Watson undergoes surgery
No additional damage found
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Nov 8, 11:00 am

Houston Texans
Doctors did not find any additional damage in the knee of Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson while they performed ACL surgery Wednesday morning in Houston, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. (ESPN.com)

FFToday's Take: With the surgery complete, Watson will begin his recovery to get back onto the field for 2018 season. In the meantime, Houston will continue to deploy Tom Savage as their quarterback. The 2014 fourth-round draft pick threw for 219 yards and one touchdown in Week 9's loss to the Colts.

Injury Deshaun Watson reportedly tears ACL
Team awaiting results of MRI
By: Doug Orth | Thu Nov 2, 5:40 pm

Houston Texans
Sources: Texans QB fear Deshaun Watson suffered a torn ACL in practice today. A non-contact injury. MRI coming to confirm. (NFL.com - Ian Rapoport)

FFToday's Take: Absolutely awful and stunning news for the Texans, who had become the league's highest-scoring team since Watson took over for good in Week 2. If Watson is in fact done for the season, Tom Savage will lead the offense the rest of the way, and the fantasy values of DeAndre Hopkins along with Will Fuller will take a sizable hit as a result. Per the Houston Chronicle, Houston will sign Matt McGloin to back up Savage.

NFL cancels Texans-Cowboys preseason game
League dealing with Hurricane Harvey aftermath
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Aug 30, 12:40 pm

Dallas Cowboys
The Texans and Cowboys won’t play in Dallas tomorrow night after all. Instead, the game has been canceled. The reason is apparently to allow the Texans to travel home, as parts of Houston are starting to clear after the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. (Pro Football Talk )

FFToday's Take: This game was set to be played in Dallas but will now be cancelled as many of the players, fans and families are dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. The most fantasy relevant fallout of this lies with Houston. Without another shot to prove himself, Texans rookie QB DeShaun Watson has virtually no chance to unseat Tom Savage as the starting quarterback to open the year.
