2017 Outlook
Depth Chart
During his second year in Baltimore, after being cast off from Cleveland, West became a surprising borderline RB2 in fantasy last year. West has been part of the multi-year turnover at the position for the Ravens, as they haven't been able to find a franchise runner in quite some time. It was a mild surprise that the Ravens didn't add a runner in the draft, and their only meaningful move at the position was adding Danny Woodhead. West enters 2017 firmly atop the depth chart, something no one saw coming. After a decent first half of the season, he seemed to lose favor with the coaching staff, and it seemed like Kenneth Dixon would take over. Well, Dixon is gone for the year, West has had a good off-season, and suddenly the 4th year back out of Towson is someone fantasy owners have to pay attention to. Someone has to run the ball in Baltimore, and with Woodhead more of a receiver, and only disappointments and mediocre talent behind him, West could be on track for a repeat of his standard league RB2 finish. He should surpass 200 carries, so 800 yards and 6 touchdowns isn't outside the realm of possibility.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury Dixon injury worse than expected, out for the year
Medial meniscus repaired today - not trimmed
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Jul 25, 5:15 pm

Baltimore Ravens
Source: Ravens RB Kenneth Dixon will be out for the season. He had his medial meniscus repaired today - not trimmed. Out 4-5 months. Brutal (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Tough blow for Dixon and the Ravens. His initial recovery tine was set at 6-8 weeks but now he will miss the entire season. The Ravens will look to Terrance West, Danny Woodhead and are brining in Bobby Rainey for a workout. West and Woodhead will get a bump in our next projections and rankings update.

Injury Kenneth Dixon tears meniscus
Ravens RB will have surgery, miss about 6-8 weeks
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Jul 25, 1:13 pm

Baltimore Ravens
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that Kenneth Dixon suffered a tear in his meniscus, according to a source informed of the situation. He'll have surgery today. The Baltimore Sun first reported the news. (NFL Network)

FFToday's Take: Dixon was already slated to miss the first four games of the season due to suspension for violating the league's performance enhancing drug policy, so this isn't a major development as he wasn't high on too many cheatsheets anyway. This does, however, add to the job security of Terrance West and Danny Woodhead and inches them a spot or two up the draft boards.

Terrance West in line for big workload?
OC: I'm looking forward to him toting the rock
By: Doug Orth | Thu Jun 15, 5:55 pm

Baltimore Ravens
Ravens senior offensive assistant Greg Roman: "I'm very excited about Terrance West. I'm looking forward to him toting the rock this year." (Baltimore Sun)

FFToday's Take: To be fair, Roman was only asked about West, not Kenneth Dixon, who will miss the first four games of the season due to a PED suspension. However, ESPN's Jamison Hensley suggested earlier this month West is the "unquestioned starter". Caution is advised, if only because Dixon is the more explosive back and Danny Woodhead is a more complete back who will likely replace West in the red zone. It's hard to imagine West being much more of a fantasy factor this year than he was in 2016.
