| The main receiving back in the New England passing game, White finished 2016 with 60 catches for 551 yards and five touchdowns. His role appears to be clearly defined heading into 2017, but as is always the case with Bill Belichick teams, expecting a certain amount of volume for a running back is an exercise in futility.
White's extensive usage in the Super Bowl is often cited as a reason to think he may see more action in the 2017 regular season. But that narrative is flawed due to the fact that the Patriots were down for most of the game and an injury to Dion Lewis gave White exclusive work in the backfield on passing downs. White is more of a target in PPR leagues and can typically be had early in Round 10.
| Gronkowski not expected to play, thigh injury|
Gronk to miss Week 5
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Oct 5, 6:00 pm
|Updated: Patriots’ TE Rob Gronkowski is not expected to play tonight vs Bucs, per source. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: We got word earlier today that Gronk could be limited, but not it appears he will sit out Thursday night. Dwayne Allen should fill the tight end role but he's difficult to trust as anything more than a TE2 given his limited usage this season (0 catches). Expect more work in the passing game to go to Chris Hogan, Danny Amendola and James White.
| Amendola ruled out for Patriots|
Pats to feature RBs in the passing game?
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 15, 3:00 pm
|The New England Patriots will be without starting linebacker Dont'a Hightower and top slot receiver Danny Amendola for Sunday's road game against the New Orleans Saints, as the club has officially ruled them out with injuries. (ESPN)|
FFToday's Take: With Amendola out, Chris Hogan and Brandin Cooks should be Tom Brady's top wideout targets. Belichick may opt to use his running backs (James White, Rex Burkhead, Dion Lewis) more in the passing game as newly acquired Phillip Dorsett is the only other healthy receiver on the roster.
| Mike Gillislee gets in full practice on Tuesday|
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Aug 22, 2:00 pm
|RB Mike Gillislee says he was a full participant in practice today. Has been limited the last two weeks with hamstring. (Mike Reiss on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Gillislle has been bothered by a hamstring injury leaving fantasy owners to wonder about his role in the crowded Patriots backfield. It's difficult to peg Gillislle, Rex Burkhead, James White or any back in this offense as sure thing, making all dart throws in the middle to late rounds of your draft.
