2016 Outlook
Depth Chart
Following a reasonably productive 2014 season most fantasy experts had Knile Davis locked in not only as Jamaal Charles’ primary backup, but also as one of the league’s premiere “handcuff” running backs. That assessment couldn’t have been further from the truth as it was actually second-year back Charcandrick West who emerged as the Chiefs’ lead tailback once Charles went down with an ACL tear in Week 5. West produced borderline elite numbers almost immediately, including taking 20-plus carries in three straight contests from Weeks 7 through 9. His numbers began to dip a bit toward the end of the season, however, and he finished with just one rushing touchdown over his final six contests. Most believe West is in line to be Charles’ primary handcuff, but don’t be overly confident with that on draft day. There is still a very real chance that West is third in line behind Charles and Spencer Ware.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury Spencer Ware hopeful to play
Rib injury
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Jan 1, 7:30 am

Kansas City Chiefs
Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (ribs) is hopeful to play today. With good reason: Another 79 yards gets him $600k more next year. Already got $600k (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: After being limited in practice all week. Ware will be a gametime decision. The Chiefs and Chargers play late this afternoon so Ware owners will should have plan B in place. If Ware sits, Charcandrick West would likely start with Knile Davis getting in work as the No.2 RB.

Injury Jamaal Charles has scope on left knee
All but ruled out for the 2016 season
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Nov 17, 12:45 pm

Kansas City Chiefs
Jamaal Charles had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Monday. Previously had his right knee scoped. Had been experiencing problems in both knees. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: The news keeps getting worse for Charles who previously had his right knee scoped. This latest procedure will kill There any hope of Charles returning for potential playoff games. Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West are locked in as the Chiefs top running backs.

Injury Spence Ware practicing, Maclin sits
Chiefs RB passes concussion protocol
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Nov 9, 12:30 pm

Kansas City Chiefs
Spencer Ware is making progress in his recovery from a concussion. He’s set to practice on Wednesday, which should put him on track to return to the lineup in Carolina this weekend. Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin will not be joining Ware on the practice field. Maclin aggravated a groin injury last Sunday and left the game after playing two snaps. (ProFootballTalk)

FFToday's Take: Ware is expected to play this week against Carolina and should see the bulk of the work with Charcandrick West filling the backup role. Maclin is a longshot to play, leaving Alex Smith with Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill and Chris Conley as his top three weapons.

Injury Spencer Ware still in concussion protocol
Sat out Week 9
By: Doug Orth | Mon Nov 7, 5:30 pm

Kansas City Chiefs
As far as HC Andy Reid knows right now, Spencer Ware hasn't passed concussion protocol. (BJ Kissel on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: While this news doesn't mean the same thing on a Monday as it would on a Friday, it is still a bad sign for his Week 10 status most non-regularly concussed players seem to be able to pass protocol in about a week, although each case is obviously different. Charcandrick West certainly didn't make any move on making the backfield a two-man show with a disappointing effort versus the Jaguars, so Ware will almost certainly return to fantasy RB1 status once he is cleared.

Injury Spencer Ware ruled out, West to start
Bishop Sankey expected to play
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Nov 4, 2:30 pm

Kansas City Chiefs
Running back Spencer Ware, the Kansas City Chiefs' leading rusher, has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars because of a concussion. The Chiefs will go with Charcandrick West as their main featured back against the Jaguars. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: West is locked in as the Chiefs main ball carrier this week. Newly signed Bishop Sankey will be the No.2 back as practice squad player Darrin Reaves suffered a groin injury this week. West has RB1 value against the Jags and should be a wildly popular play in DFS.

Injury Jamaal Charles headed to IR
May need another surgery on knee
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Nov 1, 5:30 pm

Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs on Tuesday placed running back Jamaal Charles on injured reserve, a league source told ESPN's Field Yates. Charles has had soreness in his surgically repaired right knee. The move to IR means he will miss at least eight weeks. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Charles missed last week's game after suffering a setback in Week 7. He was scheduled to see Dr. Andrews today. Charles can be dropped in redraft leagues as the Chiefs will move forward with Spencer Ware (concussion) and Charcandrick West. Ware isn't expected to play this week and the team is signed Bishop Sankey from the Packers practice squad.

Injury Jamaal Charles ruled out for Week 8
Knee injury
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 28, 2:30 pm

Kansas City Chiefs
Chiefs coach Andy Reid says Jamaal Charles will miss Sunday's game with knee issues. (Terez Paylor on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Charles has experienced swelling in his knee last week and with Andy Reid playing it safe with Charles up to this point, it's not surprising Charles will miss Week 8. Spencer Ware will continue his role as the lead back in the Chiefs offense with Charcandrick West filling a backup role.

Injury Limited workload for Jamaal Charles
Knee injury
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Oct 23, 8:35 am

Kansas City Chiefs
Chiefs optimistic Jamaal Charles will be able to play today with a limited workload, per sources, but want to test him pregame to make sure. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Charles popped up on the injury report Friday with swelling in his surgically repaired knee. He's off the radar as a fantasy play with limited action expected. Spencer Ware may lose a few carries to Charcandrick West, but remains a solid RB1 against the Saints in Week 7.
