2015 Outlook
Depth Chart
Dunbar is the third head of the possible RBBC in Dallas, acting as the likely receiving back on third down and passing situations. He is the smallest of the three backs and typically requires space on the outside to be effective. He is worthy of a late round flyer in both PPR and standard leagues, as the Cowboys coaching staff appears to still be high on him, and both Darren McFadden and Joseph Randle have question marks with regards to durability and whether or not they can operate as a lead back.

Cowboys trying to acquire RB Ball from Broncos?
Rumors abound that Dallas is looking to add the elusive RB
By: John Canario | Fri Sep 4, 3:50 pm

Dallas Cowboys
After maintaining all offseason that they're perfectly happy with their running back triumvirate of Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar, the Dallas Cowboys are discussing a trade for Denver Broncos running back Montee Ball, according to a report from Vic Lombardi of CBS 104.3 in Denver. Ball, a former second-round pick out of Wisconsin, was the starter for the Broncos during the early part of the 2014 season, but the combination of injuries and ineffectiveness led to him losing carries to Ronnie Hillman and C.J. Anderson. He played in just five games, starting three, and carried 55 times for a total of 172 yards (3.1 per carry) and one touchdown. (CBS Sports)

FFToday's Take: If Ball gets moved from Denver to Dallas, his fantasy value will receive a massive boost. With Randle and McFadden both underwhelming throughout camp and into the preseason, Ball would likely inherit the majority of the touches that were given to DeMarco Murray last year. Stay tuned...

Cowboys' backfield still in flux
Team may eventually lean on back not already on roster
By: Doug Orth | Mon Aug 24, 3:40 pm

Dallas Cowboys
Joseph Randle appears to be the starter. Lance Dunbar is the change-of-pace back with a package of plays that will be more significant than past seasons. Darren McFaddenís role will vary based on his health and Randleís effectiveness. An argument can also be made that the Cowboys are trying to send Randle a message. This is his starting job to lose. He hasnít done anything to lose it, but he apparently hasnít nailed it down, either. The Cowboys may lean on a back this season whoís not currently on the roster. (Dallas Morning News)

FFToday's Take: Owner/GM Jerry Jones said before training camp that if the team makes a move at running back, it will be near the end of the preseason. That possibility is looking more like a certainty, and the lucky recipient probably has RB2 potential running behind the Cowboys' vaunted front five. At this point, fantasy owners should expect the team to add a veteran runner like Pierre Thomas or maybe even Ray Rice since the Cowboys fashion themselves as a Super Bowl contender.

Injury Cowboys fine with what they have in backfield
Team appears content with trio of backs to replace Murray
By: Doug Orth | Mon Aug 17, 4:15 pm

Dallas Cowboys
The fact that the Dallas Cowboys have not added another tailback has confounded some. How can the Cowboys expect to run the ball as well as they did the previous season - with DeMarco Murray leading the NFL with 1,845 yards - without a running back like Murray? For now, the Cowboys are going with what they've got. "We've had months and months and months to evaluate these guys or the prospects of playing with them," owners/GM Jerry Jones said, "so you can't get nervous now." (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Oh Jerry. The Cowboys' all-world offensive line should be able to mask some deficiencies in the backfield, but the injuries to Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar in camp should serve as a wake-up call. Dallas has only brought in marginal talents to this point, but it would be a mistake for the team not to add at least one more back when final cuts are made. For now, the Cowboys are committed to Randle as 1A and McFadden as 1B with Dunbar contributing heavily on passing downs.

Cowboys' Gus Johnson impressive in camp
UDFA taking advantage of injuries to McFadden, Dunbar
By: Doug Orth | Mon Aug 10, 5:05 pm

Dallas Cowboys
With Joesph Randle sitting out of the full-contact drills on the goal line, many of the first-team reps fell to rookie tryout player Gus Johnson. Itís fair to say Johnson moved the pile, as he looked impressive in scoring multiple touchdowns. The highlight of his day came when he carried off right tackle on the goal line, shaking off Damien Wilson and bulldozing J.J. Wilcox to get into the end zone. (dallascowboys.com)

FFToday's Take: Johnson is a player to monitor in dynasty leagues only right now, but could end up on the redraft radar sooner than later since Darren McFadden is living up to his injury-prone reputation and Lance Dunbar is more of a part-time passing-down back. Johnson was the 2014 Southland Conference Player of the Year at Stephen F. Austin last year.

Injury McFadden back at work, in full for Tuesday's practice
Hamstring injury

Darren McFadden a full participant today after being limited the last two weeks by hamstring tightness. (Clarence Hill on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: We'll be tracking the Cowboys running game this entire pre-season trying to get some clarity on the expected workload distribution between McFadden, Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar. McFadden has been limited during OTAs, giving Randle the first shot at making a lasting impression.

Cowboys sign RB Lache Seastrunk
Dallas searching for answers at RB position
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Jun 8, 10:35 am

Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys are adding another running back to their 90-man roster as they continue to search for the right mix to replace DeMarco Murray. The Cowboys are signing former Baylor running back Lache Seastrunk, who had a standout high school career at Temple. Seastrunk will compete for a roster spot against Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden, Lance Dunbar and Ryan Williams. The Cowboys are expected to release undrafted rookie running back Synjyn Days out of Georgia Tech. (Dallas Morning News)

FFToday's Take: Despite the team putting on a good face, there's still some uncertainty surrounding the running back position in Dallas. Randle and McFadden are the atop the depth chart but neither inspire confidence or security at the position. Seastrunk in no lock to make the final roster
