2016 Outlook
Depth Chart
In the preseason a year ago, Coleman made the Falcons’ backfield a two-man competition and his play during the regular season has only added more fuel to the ongoing duel for carries. Fumble issues will prevent him from pushing Freeman off the pedestal as the team’s clear starter; however the coaching staff definitely wants to get the sophomore runner more involved in 2016. Fantasy owners should expect to see Coleman involved in the quick screen game. Although he only recorded two receptions last year, the former Hoosier has good enough hands to make an impact in the passing game. As an extension of the running game, the short passing attack would allow Coleman to use his game breaking speed. It is quite possible that Coleman sees his workload increase to 10-plus touches a game making him a solid RB4 with the potential to play as a RB3/Flex in Atlanta’s one-two backfield punch. Considering the team’s plans to emphasize their ground game, Coleman remains one Devonta Freeman injury away from being a starting running back. Consequently, he should be viewed as a premium depth option and potential handcuff target after the “name brand” starters have been taken off the board.

Injury Tevin Coleman expected back after bye
Expects to practice fully before Week 12 vs. Arizona
By: Doug Orth | Mon Nov 14, 5:05 pm

Atlanta Falcons
Falcons coach Dan Quinn said RB Tevin Coleman will be back to full participation before the Arizona game. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Although it hasn't shown in their point totals very often during his three-game absence, the Falcons' offense has been less dynamic since Coleman. Owners should feel good about using Coleman as a RB2 in most leagues going forward, although his volatility makes him a better flex play, which is what he should be considered against the Cardinals' stout defense in a couple of weeks.

Injury Tevin Coleman could go Week 10
Team likely to issue further update on hamstring injury Friday
By: Doug Orth | Thu Nov 10, 4:40 pm

Atlanta Falcons
Falcons RB Tevin Coleman (hamstring) could play Sunday, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported. Coleman ran on the sidelines and the team will have a better understanding of his status on Friday, Rapoport added. (NFL.com)

FFToday's Take: Coleman was a top-15 back in most leagues prior to suffering his Week 8 injury, so his return is no small news for owners. It's fair to believe Atlanta will limit his touches this week if he does play, as the team heads to its bye in Week 11. Although owners should have other options prepared, it is unlikely most have the luxury of sitting a player with Coleman's upside, so stay tuned for further updates on his Week 10 status.

Injury Coleman, Tamme ruled out for Falcons
Devonta Freeman locked in as RB1

Atlanta Falcons
Falcons running back Tevin Coleman, defensive end Dwight Freeney and tight end Jacob Tamme were all declared out for Thursday night’s game against Tampa Bay by the team on Wednesday. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)

FFToday's Take: Coleman will miss his second straight game with a hamstring injury leaving Devonta Freeman and Terron Ward to handle running back duties. Freeman should handle 70 percent of the RB workload Thursday against the Bucs. Rookie Austin Hooper will start at TE.

Injury Tevin Coleman misses practice Wednesday
Hamstring injury

Atlanta Falcons
Tevin Coleman (hamstring) won't practice today. Coach Dan Quinn said he's not sure of the extent of Coleman's injury. Ran some today. (Vaughn McClure on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The Falcons signed Stevan Ridley this week which is an indication that they don't expect Coleman to play against the Packers. Expect a heavy dose of Devonta Freeman against a Packers defense that's given up the fewest fantasy points to the running back position.

Injury Tevin Coleman expected to miss time
Hamstring injury
By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 24, 5:40 pm

Atlanta Falcons
Dan Quinn said he'll know more about Tevin Coleman's hamstring strain in the next couple days, but the Atlanta Falcons coach sounded prepared to make a roster move in case the running back is sidelined for any period of time. Coleman played 14 snaps in Sunday's 33-30 overtime loss to the San Diego Chargers before exiting. He scored on a 30-yard burst and had 74 combined yards on nine touches. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Devonta Freeman should slide into more of a feature-back role, while Terron Ward is expected to be promoted from the practice squad. Freeman was already a top-10 fantasy back sharing touches, so the next 1-2 weeks (presumably) may allow him to push 25 touches. The bad news is Atlanta's schedule may not cooperate, as Green Bay, Tampa Bay and Philadelphia await before the Falcons' Week 11 bye.
