2018 Outlook
Depth Chart
The hype machine that is the Miami Dolphins beat writer arena of the Twitterverse created a monster last season that burned fantasy owners that drank the kool-aide on DeVante Parker. At 6'3", 210-pounds, the former first-round selection from Louisville has the size and talent to be a stud wide receiver in the NFL, and nearly everyone pegged Parker as a breakout candidate as a third-year wide receiver last season.

Instead of breaking out, Parker delivered his worst season as a pro, setting career lows in catch percentage, touchdowns, and yards per reception, to go along with a putrid 5.6 FPts/G average. As a player drafted before the seventh round in most drafts last season, Parker didn't live up to the hype and proved to be a title-killing mistake for those poor souls who drafted him in the middle rounds.

Now that Jarvis Landry signed a lucrative free-agent deal to join the Browns, the hype train on Parker is once again starting to build up steam. With Landry's 161 targets from the previous season up for grabs and the oft-injured Danny Amendola likely to take only a fraction, Parker could be primed for that breakout season that did not materialize in 2017. The most positive aspect of Parker in 2018 is that investing in the former first-round pick will not cost quite as much draft capital as last season, making Parker worth the gamble by owners looking for an upside pick in the ninth or tenth round of 12-team leagues.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury DeVante Parker sidelined with broken finger
Out indefinitely
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Aug 14, 11:45 am

Miami Dolphins
Dolphins receiver DeVante Parker is out indefinitely with a broken right middle finger, according to a league source. Parker is optimistic he will be ready for the Sept. 9 regular season opener against Tennessee, but coach Adam Gase said it was too soon to speculate on a timetable. A source said he could miss four to six weeks. (Miami Herald)

FFToday's Take: Gase suggested Parker was week to week. Parker has battled numerous injuries during his career including ankle, rib and hamstring issues. Albert Wilson and Jakeem Grant should see increased opportunities with Parker out. Wilson was signed as a free agent this off-season but has struggled to find a role in the offense.

DeVante Parker not impressing yet in camp
Xavien Howard getting the best of their 1-on-1 matchups early
By: Doug Orth | Mon Jul 30, 5:50 pm

Miami Dolphins
When DeVante Parker puts on his uniform before practice, Xavien Howard is not actually one of his pieces of equipment. It has just seemed that way through five days of camp. Because Howard, the Dolphins’ third-year cornerback, has been attached to Parker’s hip almost every time they have matched up. Depending on your point of view, all of this is either really good news or not-so-good news. The Dolphins need Howard to be their best cornerback. So far, he has been. Parker has been largely ineffective through five training camp practices, particularly in team drills. While Danny Amendola, Albert Wilson, Jakeem Grant and Isaiah Ford have all flashed, Parker is still waiting for that signature play. (Miami Herald - Adam Beasley)

FFToday's Take: As the beat writer notes, this is "either really good news or not-so-good news" depending on your point of view. To be fair to Parker, the light came on for Howard right around midseason last year and he was one of the tougher corners to beat thereafter. At the same time, owners would like a perspective top-30 receiver in the league beat a top corner from time to time. Parker's ADP is now in the late eighth round, making it much more palatable to gamble on him than in years past.
