2018 Outlook
Depth Chart
After an up and down rookie season, Carson Wentz exploded onto the fantasy football landscape in 2017 with 33 touchdowns and only seven interceptions before suffering a season-ending ACL tear in Week 14 against the Los Angeles Rams. With at least two touchdowns in 12 of his 14 games, Wentz posted the fifth highest TD% (7.5) by a quarterback in their second season in NFL history, behind Hall of Fame players Dan Marino, Kurt Warner, and Johnny Unitas. Ironically, the player with the highest TD% in their sophomore season is Nick Foles, the quarterback who took over for Wentz last season and led the Eagles to their first Super Bowl.

When you consider the fact that Sid Luckman's 7.9% TD rate is the highest in NFL history and future first ballot hall of famer Tom Brady owns a career TD rate of 5.5%, a negative regression for Wentz is likely in 2018. It should also be noted that although Wentz posted impressive touchdown numbers in 2017, his completion percentage dipped down to just over 60% from 62% as a rookie, suggesting that his success throwing touchdowns at a high rate is an outlier.

Questions surrounding his ability to return to form from his severe knee injury also hurts the draft value of Wentz heading into 2018. As a quarterback who excels at moving both inside and outside the pocket, the inability to evade would-be tacklers and extending plays could hurt Wentz's overall value in 2018. However, Wentz is surrounded by a collection of talented wide receivers and running backs, and Doug Pederson's stellar offensive scheme should help Wentz finish as a top 12 QB this season.

News From The Past 90 Days
Golden Tate acquired by Eagles
Lions get 3rd round pick from Philly
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Oct 30, 2:00 pm

Detroit Lions
Adam Schefter on Twitter: "Detroit is trading WR Golden Tate to the Philadelphia Eagles for a third-round pick, per source." (Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Well, it's been a busy day for trades so far and since Schefty didn't get to break the DeMaryius news, he's leading the charge on the Tate deal. This will hurt Nelson Agholor's value and enhance the value of Carson Wentz going forward. Without much of a big-name running game, the Eagles must have felt they need to bolster their receiving corps and add to their current group of Alshon Jeffrey, Agholor and Jordan Matthews. Perhaps Tate will see more of a slot role, splitting snaps on the outside with Matthews when Agholor fills that spot.

Injury Carson Wentz to start in Week 3
Medically cleared from ACL injury
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Sep 17, 10:00 am

Philadelphia Eagles
Carson Wentz has been medically cleared and will start Sunday, as Head Coach Doug Pederson will announce during his press conference. (Eagles on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Wentz gets a decent matchup against the Colts in Week 3 but has depleted weapons. Alshon Jeffery (shoulder), Mike Wallace (ankle) and Mack Hollins will all miss this game leaving TE Zach Ertz and Nelson Agholor should be target hogs. Wentz will be a shaky low-end QB1.

Injury Darren Sproles out with hamstring injury
Moer ground game with Ajayi?
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 14, 2:30 pm

Philadelphia Eagles
#Eagles Injury Report for the Bucs game: OUT: WR Alshon Jeffery (shoulder), RB Darren Sproles (hamstring), QB Carson Wentz (knee) QUESTIONABLE: WR Shelton Gibson (knee) (Jeff McLance on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: One less cog in the wheel should help the fantasy prospects of Jay Ajayi and Corey Clement although it's difficult to expect Ajayi picking up much of the receiving work Sproles leaves behind. Wendall Smallwood should operate as the No.3 running back.

Injury Wentz could miss a "few more weeks"
Eagles being conservative with their QB following knee surgery
By: Doug Orth | Thu Sep 6, 9:10 pm

Philadelphia Eagles
QB Carson Wentz isn’t expected to play for a few more weeks... and everyone is OK with that. Nothing more important than the health of the face of the franchise. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Rapoport believes Wentz may not return until October, which would lock Nick Foles in as a starter through at least Week 4. It's an obvious downgrade for the entire offense, although they are very few Philadelphia skill-position players who are actually healthy at the moment. Rapoport also reports it is Wentz's recovery from the LCL damage he suffered - not the ACL - that is delaying his return. All indications are that Wentz's rehab is going well, so he should hit the ground running when he is cleared.

Injury Carson Wentz "close" to being ready
Nick Foles still starting Week 1 game on Thursday
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Sep 4, 11:05 am

Philadelphia Eagles
Jimmy Kempski (@JimmyKempski) on Twitter: "Doug says Carson is “close” to being ready." (Twitter)

FFToday's Take: He's obviously referring to Doug Pederson, who said recently that Nick Foles will start Week 1 against the Falcons. This makes it seem like Carson Wentz should be ready to go by Week 3 at the latest unless he suffers a setback.

Carson Wentz decision: Friday at the earliest
Eagles coach has yet to make his mind up about Week 1
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Aug 28, 12:00 pm

Philadelphia Eagles
Dave Zangaro on Twitter: "Doug Pederson says he’ll probably make a decision at QB on Friday. Don’t expect him to announce it publicly until he absolutely has to. #Eagles" Carson Wentz (knee) has just a few days to get cleared for full contact if he wants to start Week 1. If he's unable to play, Nick Foles makes for a high-upside streamer. (Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Wentz isn't very high among QBs on most draft boards despite MVP-like numbers in 13 games in 2017, largely because we have no idea how his knee is going to respond to game action following December ACL surgery. Based on his current ADP, he's currently being drafted as the 7th QB off the board, though he barely cracks the Top 20 in ours.

Injury Wentz cleared for 11-on-11 work
No plan to play in pre-season games
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Aug 18, 1:00 pm

Philadelphia Eagles
Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz will resume 11-on-11 drills once the team returns to practice on Sunday, according to an ESPN report. As of now there is no plan for Wentz, who is still recovering from a torn ACL he suffered last December, to play in the preseason. The final step towards Wentz playing in Week 1 is to be cleared for contact. (NJ.com)

FFToday's Take: This is the next step as Wentz eyes the season opener on September 6th. He's by no means a lock to begin the season as the Eagles starting quarterback. Even if he does, he'll undoubtedly won't feel 100% comfortable. Wentz is being over-drafted at his current ADP of 7.06 (QB6) in redraft leagues.
