After a brutally inefficient season last year, and an offseason marred with off the field issues, finances and lack of veteran depth are likely the only things keeping Mixon on this roster. While the terrible o-line play does factor in, Mixon was one of the least elusive runners in the NFL, rarely carving out his own yards. His 29 carries inside the ten resulted in only six rushing touchdowns, and only four of his whopping 210 carries went for 20 yards or more. What's worse than the final numbers is the fact former teammate Samaje Perine often was the preferred back in certain situations, especially when it mattered most in the AFC title game. The Bengals replaced Perine with only 5th round pick Chase Brown who offers versatility, and great college production, but will have to dazzle in the preseason to challenge Mixon's touch monopoly. That is, if Mixon is even on the team. Rumors have swirled all offseason about reducing his salary, and the market for backs has taken a tumble. Outside of 2021, Mixon just hasn't produced up to his pay, and remains a cut candidate. Not exactly a ringing real life or fantasy endorsement. Even if he remains on the roster, and retains a stranglehold on touches, I've seen enough to avoid Mixon's limited ceiling.

Trade: Bills moving WR Stefon Diggs to Texans
Bills receive 2025 second-round pick

|  | Blockbuster: Bills are finalizing a trade to send four-time Pro-Bowl WR Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans for draft-pick compensation, sources tell ESPN. Compensation updates, per sources: Bills receive 2025 second-round pick via Minnesota. Texans receive Stefon Diggs and a 2024 sixth-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick. (Adam Schefter on X)
FFToday's Take: There have been rumors swirling around Diggs (30) and his happiness in Buffalo before last season so this deal isn't a huge shock but does leave the Bills very thin at wide receiver. Expect them to address the position in the upcoming draft (they have pick 28). Houston is stocking their team around young QB C.J. Stroud who've also added RB Joe Mixon, DE Danielle Hunter and DT Denico Autry (to name a few) this offseason.

Bengals find a trade partner instead of releasing Mixon

|  | Joe Mixon is due $5.75 million in 2024 -- including a $3,000,028 roster bonus due Sunday -- in the last year of his contract.
Instead of being cut by the #Bengals, Mixon now lands in a great spot with the #Texans, who just lost leading rusher Devin Singletary to the #Giants. (Tom Pelissero on X)
FFToday's Take: The Texans were in need of a running back after Devin Singletary bolted for the Giants. Mixon (27) was reportedly going to be released but instead, the Bengals found a trade partner. Mixon will certainly begin the season as the lead back for an above-average offense putting him easily on the RB2 radar. Dameon Pierce is currently set to be the backup.

Two-year, $8 million deal for Moss

|  | The #Bengals have agreed to terms with RB Zack Moss on a two-year, $8 million deal, sources tell me and @TomPelissero. The deal includes $4.525 million in the first year for Moss, who cashes in after showing what he could do in Jonathan Taylor’s absence last year. (Mike Garafolo on X)
FFToday's Take: Moss played in a workhorse role last season while Jonathan Taylor missed time, and proved to be a valuable contributor. He'll pair with second-year player Chase Brown who has more burst but is best suited for a change-of-pace role. Trayveon Williams and Chris Evans are also on the roster. One player who isn't' on the roster anymore is Joe Mixon, who was released today. Mixon (27) posted 1410 total yards and 12 TDs last season playing in all 17 games for the Bengals.
