| Houston fans and fantasy owners alike haven't had a reason to get excited over a Texans quarterback since they were named an expansion franchise back in 2002. Watson oozes potential as a runner and passer but it won't come without some growing pains. He threw 17 interceptions in his final season at Clemson and more than a few talent evaluators have described him as a player that tries to do "too much" on a given play. That might not be a bad thing considering Watson's ability to extend plays, gain yards on the ground and DeAndre Hopkins' freakish ability to turn bad passes into touchdowns. The Texans simply need more from their quarterback, which is why they selected him with the 12th pick in the 2017 draft. Houston isn't expected to use a funky two-quarterback system so fantasy owners shouldn't expect to see the him until the second half of the season.
That doesn't mean he can't be valuable in redraft leagues. In the six games between Week 9 and Week 14, the Texans have four favorable matchups for fantasy quarterbacks (IND, @BAL, @TEN, SF). Consequently, Watson may be worth the gamble for those owners needing more from their quarterback position as they push for the playoffs.

Texans QB resumes running after torn ACL
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Feb 5, 2:00 pm
|In the latest batch of progress in his rehabilitation from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson posted a video of himself running for the first time since injuring his knee.
Watson has said he's ahead of schedule in his recovery from an injury sustained in practice.
The Texans and Watson are hopeful that he will be able to participate in organized team activities on at least a limited basis. (Houston Chronicle)|
FFToday's Take: Watson injured his knee roughly three months ago (November 2nd). We often hear a player is "ahead of schedule" in rehab but the biggest takeaway is there have been not setbacks to date. Given his monstrous output during Weeks 3 through 8 last season, Watson will come with a high ADP and likely be overvalued in redraft leagues.

Rehab from torn ACL reportedly going "very well"
By: Doug Orth | Thu Feb 1, 7:15 pm
|QB Deshaun Watson is expected to be on-field, going through 7-on-7 work during OTAs, I’m told. His ACL rehab is going very well. (NFL.com - Ian Rapoport)|
FFToday's Take: It appears owners won't have to worry about Watson being ready in time for training camp. While Houston has work to do on the offensive line in order to make sure it can protect last year's first-round pick, Watson looked every bit like a long-term fantasy QB1 before his injury once he adapted to the pro game. He seems like a lock to be one of the first five quarterbacks to be taken off the board in fantasy drafts this offseason.
| DeAndre Hopkins expected to play|
Missed practice all week with toe injury
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Dec 15, 4:00 pm
|Two of the Texans' best players weren't at practice Friday during the portion open to reporters. Texans Pro Bowl wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins hasn't practiced all week due to a toe injury. He has 11 touchdown catches to lead the NFL. Clowney has a knee injury and an illness. He has nine sacks and 20 tackles for losses. Texans coach Bill O'Brien said he expects both players to play Sunday. (Houston Chronicle)|
FFToday's Take: It's worrisome that Hopkins missed practice all week but it sounds like he will be ready to go on Sunday. He faces a difficult matchup against the Jags secondary but Hopkins did manage 7-55-1 on 16 targets back in Week 1 with Tom Savage / Deshaun Watson under center.
